🍻 Volunbeering returns on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, from 6–8 p.m. at Hop River Brewing Company (1515 N Harrison St., Fort Wayne). 🗑️ Trashy Thursdays happens Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025, from 10 a.m.–noon at Eagle Marsh East (5013 Engle Rd., Fort Wayne). 🧶 Volunteers can support A Baby’s Closet by knitting or crocheting homemade blankets, about 30" by 36", for new moms. These blankets are gifted when families visit the program, which provides baby items to parents working through hardship. Finished blankets can be dropped off at Associated Churches (602 E. Wayne St., Fort Wayne) Monday–Thursday from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m.–noon. Read more from Volunteer Fort Wayne here.
🌻 A decorated wooden chaise lounge chair at Bass and Kroemer Roads catches the eye of more than 6,400 drivers daily, along with bikers and walkers on the trail. Owner Karma Brown updates the chair’s decor with each season, bringing color and charm to the busy corner. Her story was featured in WANE 15’s Positively Fort Wayne segment. 🏢 WaterFurnace International celebrated the grand opening of a 173,000-square-foot expansion at its Fort Wayne headquarters on Sept. 24, 2025. The $14 million project nearly triples the facility’s size, boosting production, efficiency, and capacity to meet growing demand for renewable energy solutions. The building is fully heated and cooled by WaterFurnace’s own geothermal systems and was designed with future growth in mind. Over 250 employees and state and local leaders attended the ribbon-cutting, recognizing the company’s role in northeast Indiana’s economy. Read more from PR Newswire here.
🎨 A new sculpture titled “Southeast Love” was dedicated Sept. 29, 2025, at Ivan Lebamoff Reservoir Park as part of Allen County’s Bicentennial celebration. Created by artist Bonnie “BonJo” Andrews, the colorful piece highlights southeast Fort Wayne culture with nods to Hanna School, local basketball tournaments, fishing derbies, and nonprofit Bigger Than Us Inc. Andrews said the sculpture helps the community feel seen and represented. It stands in the park’s northwest corner at South Clinton Street and Creighton Avenue. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🚔 A Fort Wayne police officer stabbed during a Sept. 22 investigation has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home. Police were responding to a domestic disturbance on St. Marys Avenue when the situation escalated, and the officer was stabbed. Officers then fired shots, killing the suspect, 33-year-old Jacob Lee Leckenby. The coroner ruled his death a homicide–police action shooting, the standard ruling for officer-involved incidents. The officer and those who fired shots have not been named. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🏈 South Side senior running back Chris Mhoon set a new school single-game rushing record with 307 yards and four total touchdowns in a Week Five victory. One score came on a punt return as Mhoon filled in on special teams, while the rest came from his dominant ground game. His performance broke the record previously held by 10-year NFL veteran Lamar Smith. Mhoon said he wasn’t chasing records, just focused on winning, and is ready to keep running strong for the rest of the season. Read more from WFFT here.
