📰News
🏫 Concordia Lutheran High School has broken ground on its $34 million facilities upgrade, the largest in its 90-year history. The “Bold Step” campaign includes two phases: a new three-story academic wing, expanded student life spaces, safety and accessibility upgrades, and a full renovation of the chapel-auditorium. About $22 million has already been raised, with $12 million still needed. Leaders and city officials celebrated the project as a major investment in education and community. 🚌 Citilink has presented a balanced budget after facing a $2.5 million shortfall in 2024. CEO John Metzinger credited cooperation, new short-term funding sources, and changes to access service for bridging the gap. Plans include outsourcing ADA access service drivers, leaving six positions unfilled, and freezing leadership pay. Citilink also looks to state and federal leaders for long-term funding, noting Indiana lags behind neighboring states. Riders may see route changes, with public input guiding decisions. 🌆 Fort Wayne City Council has unanimously approved the renewal and expansion of the Downtown Improvement District, ensuring funding for revitalization through 2035. The district has grown by 42%, now including properties along Broadway to Electric Works and Wells Street. The $760,000 annual budget supports maintenance, safety ambassadors, small business programs, events, and marketing. Council members praised the effort for boosting downtown living and business growth, noting the population has risen to around 15,000. Read more from WANE 15 here.
💉 Super Shot has launched the “Be a Flu Fighter” campaign to encourage more Allen County residents to get vaccinated. Currently, only about 26% get a flu shot each year, well below the national goal of 70%. Flu vaccines are available for everyone 6 months and older, with FluMist offered for ages 2 to 49. Families can get their shots together in one stop. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🔥 A house fire broke out Tuesday evening near the 400 block of Irene Avenue on Fort Wayne’s north side. Fire crews responded around 7:27 p.m. and quickly contained the blaze, which started in the kitchen. The fire was ruled accidental and caused only minor damage. One person and three cats safely escaped without injury. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🐦 Kookaburras have returned to the Fort Wayne Zoo after several years. Luke, 3, and Jade, 2, are a breeding pair matched through the Species Survival Plan. Known as laughing kookaburras, they are loud, social, and part of the Kingfisher family, eating everything from insects to small animals. The zoo hopes the pair may lay eggs this fall or winter. Visitors can now hear and see them up close in the Australian Adventure exhibit. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🚗 Zeigler Subaru of Fort Wayne has opened its new dealership on Coliseum Boulevard, transforming a former mobile home lot. The ribbon cutting included food, entertainment, and tours.
