📰News

🍔 Bubba’s 33 is hiring for its new Fort Wayne restaurant at 317 East Coliseum Blvd., set to open mid-November. The 6,800-square-foot location will employ 200 people across positions like cooks, servers, bartenders, dishwashers, and more. Interviews are being held Monday through Saturday at 267 East Coliseum Blvd. The restaurant will feature an open-air garage bar, wall-to-wall TVs, upbeat music, and a menu with made-from-scratch pizza, big burgers, wings, tenders, lasagna, and ribeye. Hours will be 11 a.m.–11 p.m. Sunday–Thursday and until midnight on weekends. Those interested can apply directly to Fort Wayne opportunities here. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚦 A crash at Clinton Street and Jefferson Boulevard caused a downtown road closure Monday evening. Clinton Street was temporarily shut down at the intersection but has since reopened. No further details have been released as the investigation continues. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🎨 Downtown Fort Wayne and Art This Way are bringing new murals to 222 Pearl Street, featuring artists Brandon Coley, Natalie Fetzer, Carly Mitchell, Mitchell Egly, and Jon Mandelson. The project will cover cinderblock walls while preserving the building’s historic brick and will celebrate music as part of Fort Wayne’s growing reputation as a “music city.” Approved by the Fort Wayne Public Art Commission, the installation is supported by the Façade Grant Program, Downtown Fort Wayne, and Lutheran Health Network. A public celebration is set for Wednesday, October 1, from 6:30–8:00 p.m. at the mural site. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🔥 Mediation between the City of Fort Wayne and the firefighters union ended Monday without a new collective bargaining agreement. Disputes remain over paid sick time for non-duty injuries and union president pay. Mayor Sharon Tucker’s office said the City wanted mediation to continue, while the union called the City’s stance misleading and challenged leaders to a public forum. The union also criticized Fire Chief Eric Lahey’s leadership and overtime costs. The next likely step is non-binding arbitration. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🕊️ Alive Community Outreach is celebrating five years of promoting nonviolence in Fort Wayne. Founded in 2020 by executive director Angelo Mante, the group now has 12 staff members offering survivor support, leadership training, and school-based peace education. Events this week include a breakfast Tuesday at the Clyde Theatre, coinciding with Peace Week and International Peace Day. FWCS high school students will study Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Six Principles of Nonviolence and take part in the “Be the Peace” campaign. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚶 The Allen County Coroner identified Tyran Dwayne McMillian, 50, as the man killed Sunday after being hit by a car downtown. McMillian, in a wheelchair, was crossing South Clinton and East Baker streets in heavy rain when he was struck by an oncoming car. He was pronounced dead at a hospital. The coroner ruled he died from multiple blunt force injuries, determining the death was an accident. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🔪 An investigation is underway after a Fort Wayne Police officer was stabbed during a domestic disturbance call Monday evening on St. Marys Avenue. Around 6:07 p.m., the officer called for help after being stabbed, leading other officers to fire shots and injure the suspect. Both the officer and suspect received medical attention, with the officer hospitalized in serious condition. At least 30 police units, Indiana State Police, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office responded. Officers who discharged weapons were placed on administrative leave per protocol. 🚓 A Fort Wayne man, Quayan D. Eldridge, 27, was arrested after racing his car south of downtown and crashing into a police car on March 25, 2023. Driving with a learner’s permit and a blood alcohol content of .094, Eldridge admitted to racing after leaving a bar and running a red light at Clinton Street and Creighton Avenue. The crash injured a police officer, Eldridge, and his passenger, who broke his femur. Eldridge faces a felony criminal recklessness charge and is also charged in a separate July 4, 2023, attempted murder case. Read more from WANE 15 here.
