🍽️ Nine of the area’s top chefs are competing in the Local Food Throwdown on Monday, September 29, from 5–9 p.m. at The Lodge at Camp Red Cedar. The event celebrates local farms, raises funds for food system programs, and lets guests enjoy appetizers, entrées, and desserts made from fresh ingredients before voting for their favorites. Tickets are $150 per person, with proceeds supporting the Northeast Indiana Local Food Network. Read more from WANE 15 here.
💦 Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation has announced splash pad closures for the season. 🏆 Carroll High School’s food service team earned top honors after creating an Asian beef stir-fry dish that placed in the top four of a national competition. The recipe, featuring beef, ramen, vegetables, and sauces, was developed during a district challenge and stood out among other schools. While the exact winning recipe isn’t served daily, a variation is available to students. The team says their focus is keeping kids happy, healthy, and fueled for the day. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🚧 Eastbound St. Joe River Drive is closed between North Anthony Boulevard and Parnell Avenue starting Monday and will remain closed until December 1 for a long-awaited sidewalk project. Westbound lanes remain open, but commuters to Concordia Lutheran High School and nearby areas may be affected. The $850,000 project will add a five-foot sidewalk, streetlights, stormwater inlets, ADA-compliant ramps, and a park strip. Detours use North Anthony, Vance, and Parnell avenues. 🚨 A man in a wheelchair died after being struck by a car Sunday evening at Clinton Street and East Baker Street in downtown Fort Wayne. Officers provided life-saving measures before he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The FWPD Accident Crash Team and Air Support are investigating, with the driver cooperating and surveillance footage being sought. Clinton Street was closed for two hours but has since reopened. 👮 Fort Wayne Police Officer Patrick Surine shared his experience after helping a man in a mental health crisis Thursday afternoon. Photos show Surine approaching the man on a downtown parking garage ledge and later hugging him during the incident.
