🐾 Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control is hosting the Purrs and Cuddles adoption event, waiving feline adoption fees through Friday, September 12. The shelter currently has many cats and kittens available. Adopters must have an approved application before taking home a new pet. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🏘️ Fort Wayne City Council approved the Phase 2 Housing amendment, allowing zero lot line properties to make use of empty lots and expand housing options. The change simplifies zoning by permitting attached homes like townhouses, streamlining approval processes, and updating building separation standards. Importantly, the amendment does not override neighborhood covenants. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🎶 Gold Top Records, a student- and staff-run label at Purdue Fort Wayne, is holding auditions for its annual music festival, Goldstock. Now in its fifth year, the event will feature up to 13 acts across the main stage and side stage at the Clyde Theater. Main stage auditions are open through October 5, and side stage auditions close October 19. The lineup will be announced mid-October. Tickets are $12 and available starting Friday on the Clyde Theater’s ticket site. Read more from WANE 15 here.
📧 The City of Fort Wayne and Allen County are alerting businesses and individuals to a fake invoice scam. Emails appear to come from the City, specifically targeting Board of Zoning Appeals applicants. Officials urge recipients to verify invoices with the Department of Planning Services by calling 260-449-7607, emailing [email protected], or visiting the DPS office at Citizens Square, 200 East Berry Street, Suite 150. Read more from WFFT here.
⚖️ Brothers Jamarcus D. Waller and Nelson J. Waller were charged after conspiring to kill a confidential informant tied to a Fort Wayne Police narcotics investigation. Jamarcus, already serving prison time, faces obstruction of justice charges, while Nelson faces obstruction and assisting a criminal, with a warrant issued for his arrest. Court documents detail letters, phone calls, and offers of $10,000 to place a “hit” on the informant. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🚨 Ronnie Mason, charged with dealing cocaine, was found guilty of contempt of court after arguing during a pretrial hearing and yelling expletives at the judge. The contempt conviction could add 180 days to a possible 12-year prison sentence if found guilty of the felony charge. Mason was previously involved in a January hit-and-run that led to multiple charges, some of which were dismissed in a plea deal. His trial date is set for October 7. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🕯️ On World Suicide Prevention Day, families gathered at Swinney Park to honor loved ones and reflect on new county data. A review found 64 suicide deaths in 2024, with nearly two-thirds under age 45. Increases were seen among children under 15, young adults 15–24, and adults 55–64. September was the deadliest month with 10 deaths. RemedyLIVE leaders urge the community to watch for warning signs and connect with crisis support at 988 or 494949. Read more from WANE 15 here.
