📰News
🍲 Yats at Jefferson Pointe will close on October 19, 2025, after opening in April 2023. Known for its Creole cuisine, the restaurant announced the decision on Facebook, thanking the community for its support and expressing hope to return in a new location. The first Yats opened in Indianapolis in 2001 and has since expanded to other Indiana and Ohio locations. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🚑 TRAA has issued a 30-day notice to halt Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) services for 911 calls outside Fort Wayne, sparking debate among county leaders. Commissioner Ron Turpin and Council member Ken Fries support moving dispatchers back into the downtown 911 center, citing consolidation and certified EMD staffing as priorities. TRAA Executive Director Joel Benz disagrees, arguing their current system is effective, relies on close coordination with field crews, and cannot be easily duplicated. Conversations are ongoing to reach an agreement. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🏭 The old GE plant on Taylor Street is being demolished in a nearly $10 million project with no announced future plans for the site. The teardown includes three phases: small outbuildings, the main warehouse, and the 10-story boiler house. Brandenburg Industrial Service Company is handling the demolition, which also requires asbestos removal. Once a major WWII production hub and later home to BAE Systems, the 50-acre property sits near Electric Works and remains zoned for heavy manufacturing. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🎀 Pasta di Guy at Electric Works is serving pink pasta throughout October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Two dollars from every dish will be donated to Breastie Boxes, a Fort Wayne nonprofit providing care packages for cancer patients. Pasta di Guy is open Monday–Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🎁 Allen County Toys for Tots is back after a hiatus last year and is now accepting donations through December 1. New, unwrapped toys for kids up to 18 can be dropped off at more than 120 local locations, with over 70 businesses participating. Applications for families open November 1. The program’s return is supported by MidWest America Federal Credit Union. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🎄 Spirit Christmas is opening a Fort Wayne location this November at the former Big Lots building on 3958 Illinois Road. The pop-up shop will feature holiday items including LED lights, ornaments, animatronics, Insta-trees, nutcrackers, and more. Visitors can also write letters to Santa and take photos while meeting him. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🔥 A house on Abbott Street in southeast Fort Wayne was damaged by fire Tuesday afternoon. Crews arrived around 2:30 p.m. to find flames coming from the front and side windows. The fire began in a bedroom and was ruled accidental. Two adults evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported. Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 20 minutes.
