🎃Downtown Fort Wayne celebrated its 16th annual Fright Night with over 40 local businesses and activities. The free, family-friendly event featured educational fun at Science Central, arts and crafts at the Allen County Public Library, and the popular Zombie Walk. Visitors gathered at Zombie Central for contests, performances, and sensory-friendly zones, while trick-or-treaters explored downtown stops listed in the official Fright Night Survival Guide. The night wrapped up at The Landing, where restaurants like Night Train stayed open late as part of the outdoor refreshment area. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🦇The Fort Wayne Zoo’s Wild Zoo Halloween continues for two more weekends with themed activities, treats, and costumed fun for all ages. Upcoming themes include Pirates and Princesses (Oct. 17–19) with a Princess Tea Party, and Merry Monsters (Oct. 24–26) featuring character performances. The zoo also hosts Rock & Roar Halloween, a 21+ event with live music by Decade Divide and free rides on the Crocodile Creek Adventure Ride and Endangered Species Carousel. 🪧An estimated 8,000 people gathered at the Allen County Courthouse for the worldwide “No Kings” protest, part of more than 2,700 demonstrations across all 50 states. The event, organized locally by Indivisible Northeast Indiana, opposed President Trump’s recent actions and aimed to “preserve democracy.” Supporters and critics shared opposing views, with Democratic Party Chair Karen Tallian praising the turnout and Republican Chair Steve Shine emphasizing the right to protest while criticizing far-left groups. The movement, now in its second round after June’s initial protest, reported a total of 7 million participants nationwide. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🎬 Fort Wayne’s Hobnobben Film Festival returns for its 10th year at the Fort Wayne Cinema Center. The four-day event runs Thursday through Sunday and features 36 film blocks with 167 films celebrating filmmakers and movie lovers alike. 🇺🇸 A mile-long section of State Road 114 north of Roanoke has been renamed the Captain Matthew Tomkiewicz Memorial Mile to honor the fallen U.S. Marine from Fort Wayne. Capt. Tomkiewicz, 27, died in a 2022 training crash in Norway that claimed four Marines’ lives. State Senator Justin Busch authored the resolution, and a ceremony Friday marked the dedication to commemorate Tomkiewicz’s courage and sacrifice. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚧Residents of the Mount Vernon Park neighborhood on Fort Wayne’s south side celebrated the completion of the reconstructed Fairfax Avenue between Hanna Street and Gaywood Drive. The $1.07 million project added new sidewalks, street lighting, curbs, ADA ramps, and asphalt paving, replacing the old chip and seal surface. City officials and neighbors held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the improvements, which enhance access to nearby schools, churches, and Brewer Park. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚓A man was arrested after pulling a gun on a woman during a domestic dispute early Saturday in the 500 block of E Suttenfield Street. Fort Wayne Police responded at 6:45 a.m. and learned the woman had escaped the home. Officers repeatedly called for the man to come out before he surrendered and was taken into custody at 8:42 a.m. The case remains under investigation by FWPD and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office. 🚨One person was critically injured in a shooting early Saturday on the 4000 block of South Anthony Boulevard. Fort Wayne Police responded around 2:19 a.m., confirming the victim’s life-threatening condition. The suspect has been identified but remains at large as the investigation continues. 🥅Austin Magera scored with six seconds left to lift the Fort Wayne Komets to a 6-5 win over the Kalamazoo Wings, securing their second straight road victory to open the season. Matthew Brown scored twice, while Jalen Smereck, Kirill Tyutyayev, and Trevor Janicke also netted goals. After the Wings rallied to tie late, Magera’s first goal as a Komet sealed the win.
