Wild Lights at the Fort Wayne Zoo opens today, featuring nearly a million lights throughout the park. Guests can enjoy nightly tree lightings, dance parties with Santa’s elves, s’more roasting, and cookie decorating. The walk-through includes Indiana Family Farm, Central Zoo, Coastal Cove, Red Panda Ridge, parts of Australian Adventure, and rides on the Evergreen Express. A separate ticket is required for the Fantasy of Lights drive-thru, which guests can experience before visiting Wild Lights. The event runs through January 4, with tickets available on the Zoo’s website. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🔥 A Fort Wayne resident living near Google’s new data center says traffic, construction noise, and bright lights have already affected daily life and now she’s concerned about Google’s request for 179 diesel backup generators, fuel tanks, and cooling towers. Many nearby homes were excluded from the city during annexation, leaving residents without council representation. City Council President Geoff Paddock says members were also surprised by the scale of the generator plan and has asked IDEM and Google to consider alternatives. He hopes to hold a public forum in December, though the final decision belongs to the state. Read more from WFFT here.

The Fort Wayne Fusion 19U girls soccer team captured Fort Wayne’s first-ever homeschool national championship after defeating teams from Tennessee, North Carolina, and New York. The title match took place at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, with the Fusion winning in penalty kicks after a scoreless game. The team ended the season 20-3-1, earning 19 shutouts and scoring 71 goals while allowing just five. Players described the victory as emotional and unforgettable, especially after previously losing to the same opponent two years earlier. The Fusion’s girls program, founded in 2012, was created to give homeschool athletes opportunities to play and build community. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🛠️ Fort Wayne’s Right of Way department completed 75 projects in 2025, up from 29 in 2018, covering 120 acres of green space. The department handles 311 calls, greenway trail snow removal, and small infrastructure projects, collaborating with other city agencies to improve aesthetics and infrastructure. Since 2018, their work has saved the city over $2.6 million, including through the Barrett 50/50 Cost Share Program for concrete repairs. Residents can report landscaping or infrastructure issues via 311. Read more from The Journal Gazette here.

🍲 St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen served around 1,500 meals for its annual Thanksgiving dinner with close to 100 volunteers helping. Organizers emphasized the event as a way to come together as a community and support neighbors. Donations remain important, and the kitchen serves meals daily year-round. You can learn how to make a donation or sign up to volunteer on their website, found here. Read more from 21 Alive News here.

🛡️ Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita introduced a “Data Consumer Bill of Rights” to help residents prepare for the Indiana Consumer Data Protection Act, which takes effect January 1, 2026. The law gives Hoosiers more control over how businesses collect, use, and sell their personal information. Residents will be able to view, correct, delete, and download their data, as well as opt out of targeted ads, data sales, and certain automated profiling. Companies must get consent before processing sensitive data and follow strict privacy notice and response requirements. Violations may lead to civil penalties up to $7,500 per incident, enforced by the Attorney General’s office. Read more from WFFT here.

🌲 This Friday, Nov. 28, Indiana’s 24 state parks and select properties will offer free admission for “Opt Outside Day,” encouraging Hoosiers to enjoy the outdoors after Thanksgiving. Participating parks include Pokagon, Chain O’ Lakes, Ouabache, Mississinewa, and Salamonie Lakes. Visitors can also enter contests to win 2026 DNR annual passes, magazine subscriptions, gift cards, and promotional gear by sharing photos with #OptOutsideIN2025 or completing a scavenger hunt.
