📰News
🚧 INDOT says motorists should expect upcoming adjustments at the U.S. 24/I-469 interchange. Last Nov. 22, crews planned to shift southbound traffic back to the southbound side of I-469 between Stellhorn Road and U.S. 24, with barrier wall removal on the northbound side happening next week. On or after Dec. 1, the southbound I-469 exit ramp to eastbound U.S. 24 will reopen, and drivers using the southbound exit ramp to Rose Avenue will no longer be allowed to turn left onto eastbound U.S. 24. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, stay alert, and use caution in work zones. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🚶 A new three-quarter-mile stretch of the Wheelock Road Trail is now open, giving Jefferson Middle School students safer, easier access on foot. The paved trail connects the school to areas north of Stellhorn Road, nearby neighborhoods, businesses, and other local paths. The project includes benches, a pedestrian bridge, ADA ramps, stormwater upgrades, handrails, signage, and striping. The $939,000 investment was funded through Tax Incremental Financing. An extension to the Maplecrest Road Trail and Rivergreenway is planned for 2027 or 2028. Read more from WANE 15 here.
⛸ The Headwaters Park Ice Rink opens for the 2025–2026 season on November 22, welcoming skaters of all levels with new skates and Skate Helpers available this year. The rink will stay open through February 22, with weekday hours from 4–9 p.m. and weekend hours from 12–9 p.m. A new Winter Market, in partnership with the YLNI Farmers Market, will run on select Saturdays from 4–7 p.m., offering local goods for holiday shoppers. Admission is $7 for ages three and up, free for children two and under, with skate rentals available for $4. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🎄Fort Wayne Youth theatre is retelling the 1983 classic A Christmas Story this December. The stage version includes Ralphie as an active narrator and features twists on the familiar holiday story. Students from Fort Wayne Community School’s Amp Lab helped with costume design. Performances run December 5–14, with a special “Ralphie’s Breakfast with Santa” on Dec. 13. 🍪The annual Festival of Gingerbread in Fort Wayne begins November 28 and runs through December 21 at The History Center. Local artists from Pre-K to professionals display their creations, which are judged by community judges, including WANE 15’s Ethan Dahlen. Extended hours vary throughout the week, with a sneak peek on Lighting Night, November 26, and free admission on December 2 with a non-perishable food donation for the Community Harvest Food Bank. 🎁 Toys for Tots is teaming up with the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum as it works to collect more than 6,100 toys before the Dec. 1 deadline. Unwrapped toys can be dropped off near the ticket office during select Fort Wayne Komets games from Nov. 21–30, or during normal business hours through Dec. 1. The program has collected just over 2,000 toys so far. MidWest America Federal Credit Union is backing the effort after its yearlong hiatus, and organizers say strong community partnerships are key to meeting local needs. Donations are also accepted at locations across Fort Wayne or by giving monetary gifts. Read more from WANE 15 here.

The cause remains under investigation. Read more from WANE 15 here.

Police say an officer spotted a speeding pickup near Northcrest Shopping Center around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday and attempted a stop. Parker continued at a high speed into the Papermill Bluffs neighborhood before hitting two parked vehicles and a house on Roaring Fork Run. He was not wearing a seat belt and died from blunt force injuries. No one in the home or in the pickup was injured. Read more from WANE 15 here.
