📰News

⚠️A group of more than 20 residents protested Fort Wayne’s proposed Google data center, urging City Council to oppose Google’s air permit request for 179 diesel generators. Protesters say the generators would create “hundreds of tons” of air pollution near schools and neighborhoods. The group marched from the I&M Power building to Citizens Square, hoping to speak during a special council session, but no public comment period was scheduled. They plan to return next Tuesday when public comment will be allowed. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚨A woman was killed Tuesday evening after being hit by a car while crossing North Coliseum Boulevard outside a crosswalk. Fort Wayne Police responded around 8:19 p.m. and found the woman unresponsive; medics pronounced her dead at the scene. Police say she was crossing near the 1200 block of North Coliseum when a southbound car struck her. The driver called 911 immediately and is cooperating with investigators. Southbound lanes were closed during the Fatal Accident Crash Team’s investigation. Read more from WANE 15 here.

⚖️Fort Wayne has paid more than $1 million in two settlements from 2024 involving the Fort Wayne Fire Department. The first case centered on the death of 38-year-old Taryn Michelle Burger, who died at a nail salon on Illinois Road. A tort claim alleged firefighters failed to treat her cardiac arrest quickly and weren’t properly trained in using their equipment, including an AED. The city settled for $690,000, including structured payments for her young son from 2036 to 2054. The second settlement involved a three-vehicle crash at South Anthony Boulevard and Maumee Avenue that killed 51-year-old Robin Ann Pagley. Her estate received $316,832. The city, which self-insures, did not admit liability in either case. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🎄Visit Fort Wayne is inviting residents to explore 16 of the city’s most iconic holiday light displays through its new Holiday Lights Challenge app. Participants can check in at spots like Parkview Field Holiday Lights, Fantasy of Lights, and Wild Lights at the Fort Wayne Zoo. Anyone who visits all 16 locations earns a prize. The challenge is mobile-based and available through December 31. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🏗️ Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker is set to announce the major developer chosen for the North River District on Wednesday afternoon. The 29-acre site—bounded by Clinton, Harrison, and Fourth streets—will include an amateur athletics fieldhouse, along with future retail, housing, hotel, and restaurant development. Two finalists, Price Brothers Development of Kansas City and Related Midwest of Chicago, submitted full proposals after being selected in June. The announcement will take place at a private “pep rally” event at 4 p.m., with WANE 15 streaming coverage live at 4:30 p.m. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🎸Britain’s Finest, a popular Beatles tribute band, will perform at the Sweetwater Performance Theatre on February 19. Tickets are available now at Universe.com. The group—Robert J. Bielma, Jay Nixon, Ruben Amaya, and Brendan Peleo-Lazar—will recreate George, Paul, John, and Ringo with note-for-note classics like “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” “She Loves You,” and “Twist and Shout.” CBS Los Angeles has praised them as “as close to the real deal as you may ever find.” Read more from WFFT here.

✈️Fort Wayne International Airport is preparing for one of its busiest Thanksgiving travel periods, with up to 2,500 passengers flying in almost each day next week. Airport traffic is already up 17.7% from last year, and several parking lots are filling quickly. Travelers are urged to check parking availability or get dropped off to avoid delays. Officials say arriving two hours early, checking in online, and keeping IDs and boarding passes ready will help keep lines moving. Terminal and parking expansion construction is still underway with no completion date, and congestion is expected Monday through Wednesday. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🗺️ Indiana party leaders are reacting to national pressure urging state lawmakers to pursue mid-cycle redistricting, a push led by President Donald Trump that could shift Indiana’s congressional balance. Both Republican and Democratic officials say the debate has caused frustration as lawmakers weigh whether to change the state’s map ahead of schedule. Allen County GOP Chair Steve Shine says the push began outside Indiana, pointing to California and Texas, and warns the pressure could have national consequences. He says if Indiana Republicans don’t act, they could be blamed for potentially shifting House control to Democrats. Read more from WFFT here.
