📰News

⚖️Holsum of Fort Wayne will pay $50,000 to a former employee after violating the Americans with Disabilities Act. The bakery initially allowed the employee to use a walker in the production area but later prohibited it, forcing her on medical leave and ultimately firing her. As part of a three-year consent decree, Holsum will update policies for ADA compliance, provide annual ADA training to HR and managers, and submit yearly reports to the EEOC. 🔥The Allen County Coroner’s Office identified Willie L. Williams, 77, as the man found inside a burning home on Reed Street on November 11. He died from smoke inhalation and thermal burns. The fire started in the living room and was ruled accidental. Williams’ son, Terrell Al-Sharif, said emergency crews tried to revive him and shared that his parents had lived in the home for more than 50 years. Read more from WANE 15 here.

⚠️An emergency alert went out after roughly 350 gallons of nitric acid spilled at Webb Chemical on Hayden Street, creating a vapor cloud that can cause respiratory issues. The Fort Wayne Fire Department contained the spill, and some acid entered the sewer but will not contaminate the water supply. Residents within a half mile were asked to stay inside, and the shelter in place request has now been lifted. A hazardous waste company will remove the remaining acid, and it is not yet known if anyone was hurt. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🎭The Fort Wayne Civic Theatre still needs about $144,000 to complete its Inspire Campaign, which began after expenses increased when the group was displaced during renovations at the Arts United Center. Since launching the campaign in January of 2024, they have raised more than $624,000 toward the $768,000 goal. The theatre has staged shows at multiple venues around the city and has partially returned to the Arts United Center while still operating with smaller space and off-site storage. They plan to begin moving back in December and must finish fundraising by June of 2026 to avoid using reserves. Read more from WANE 15 here.

✈️Fort Wayne International Airport will launch non stop Allegiant Air flights to Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport starting Thursday. The inaugural flight will depart at 5:56 p.m., with boarding beginning at 5:30 p.m. Representatives from the Fort Wayne Allen County Airport Authority and Commissioner Ron Turpin will be in attendance. 🚒The Fort Wayne Fire Department extinguished an intentionally set fire at a two story home under renovation on Oliver Street. Firefighters were alerted around 7 a.m., searched the house, and put out a small fire under the stairwell. No one was inside at the time, and the fire was determined to be incendiary. The investigation is ongoing. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚨Indiana officials are using National Crash Responder Safety Week to remind drivers to slow down and move over for flashing lights on the roadside. First responders say drivers continue to miss the message, leading to close calls on interstates and highways. Indiana’s Move Over Law requires drivers to change lanes away from stopped emergency vehicles or slow down if a lane change isn’t possible. Departments across northeast Indiana are stressing the reminder after too many responders have been injured or killed while helping others. Crash Responder Safety Week runs through Friday. 💳Fort Financial Credit Union receives federal approval to move forward with a member vote on its proposed merger with INOVA Federal Credit Union. The National Credit Union Administration authorizes the membership voting process, and members will get voting details soon. The merger aims to expand services, improve technology, and grow the branch and ATM network while keeping all existing branches open. If approved, the new entity will be called INOVA Financial Credit Union, with INOVA’s Dallas Bergl as CEO and Fort Financial’s Steve Collins as president. The merger is expected to close in early 2026, pending final approvals and a successful vote.
