Monday brings a mix of sunshine and clouds, with a comfortable high near 70°F. Expect steady east-northeast winds at 10 to 15 mph, keeping the air moving gently throughout the day. As evening approaches, clouds will thicken into overcast skies with a low around 52°F. Winds remain from the east-northeast at 10 to 15 mph overnight. A calm night ahead under mostly cloudy skies great for relaxing indoors or a peaceful evening stroll.

🍩 Parlor Doughnuts has opened its second Fort Wayne location at 9925 Illinois Road. The grand opening celebration runs Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Stop by and enjoy the festivities! Read more from WANE 15 here.
🏢 Citizens Square will undergo exterior renovations starting June 2 through mid-September. The Clinton Street entrance will close, with limited parking changes. Repairs include concrete patio, stairs, and ramp fixes, improved lighting, added railings, and more parking. The $449,400 project is by Schenkel Construction, Inc. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🏫 Purdue University Fort Wayne has cut 45 jobs, including the entire Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI). Affected programs include the Women’s Center, Multicultural Center, and Q Center. Staff reportedly received vague notifications and were instructed not to speak negatively about the university. Cuts also impacted departments like Advising, Athletics, Student Life, and Financial Aid. A public hearing on tuition changes will be held June 2 at 10 a.m. in the Stewart Center, with a board vote scheduled for June 6. Read more from WANE 15 here.
💦 Fort Wayne’s 9 splash pads are now open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and are free to the public. Locations include Memorial, McCormick, Waynedale, Shoaff, Buckner, Robert E. Meyers, Taylor’s Dream, Franklin Park, and Promenade Park. Northside and McMillen pools will open May 31 from 12:30 to 5 p.m. daily. 🥊 Kings and Queens Boxing Gym will host its Guns Down Gloves Up Knock Out fundraiser on May 31 and June 1 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 613 Oxford Street in Fort Wayne. The event includes a barbecue and bakes sale. Organizers also discussed an upcoming summer boxing camp for youth. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🥪 Fort Wayne Community Schools has launched its annual free summer meals program, starting May 27 through June 6. Breakfast is available from 8:30 to 8:45 a.m. and lunch from 12 to 12:30 p.m. at the following schools: Abbett, Adams, Arlington, Bloomingdale, Brentwood, Fairfield, Forest Park, Franke Park, Glenwood Park, Haley, Harris, Harrison Hill, Holland, Indian Village, Irwin, Levan Scott Academy, Lincoln, Lindley, Maplewood, Northcrest, Price, Shambaugh, St. Joseph Central, Study, Towles, Washington, Washington Center, Waynedale, and Weisser Park. ⛳ Back 9 Golf & Entertainment is gaining more community support after an initial backlash. The Fort Wayne Board of Zoning Appeals approved the facility’s special use and the height of its netting poles. Developer James Khan highlighted ongoing conversations with residents, neighborhood associations, and city officials, sharing a petition with 1,400 signatures in favor. With approvals secured, Back 9 aims to complete engineering plans and hopes to break ground by July 2025, targeting a July 2026 opening. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🔪 Christina Habegger, 37, was sentenced to 60 years in prison after being found guilty of murdering her boyfriend in October 2022. She was arrested following surveillance footage and witness statements placing her at the scene. She received credit for 766 days served awaiting trial. Read more from WANE 15 here.
✂️ Joseph Porter, 40, was sentenced to 46 years after stabbing a woman 10 times in March 2023. He also assaulted a police K9 and bit an officer during the investigation. Porter was found guilty but mentally ill and was credited over two years for time served awaiting trial. Read more from WANE 15 here.

⚾The Fort Wayne TinCaps fell 12-4 to the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Parkview Field on Saturday. After an early 2-0 lead, the Kernels scored 10 unanswered runs across the fourth and fifth innings. Padres prospect Isaiah Lowe struggled on the mound, allowing three runs and four walks over 3.1 innings. Lowe is currently 1-5 with a 6.48 ERA this season. The TinCaps will try to even the series against Cedar Rapids on Sunday with first pitch at 6:35 p.m. Read more from WANE 15 here.
