Anti-Quarry Group Raises Concerns Ahead Of Public Hearing
• Members of No Quarry on Homestead planned to present concerns about a proposed quarry during a public hearing at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on May 26.
• Opponents argued the proposal does not meet Indiana requirements for special use approval, including compatibility with Allen County’s comprehensive plan.
• The group also raised concerns about property values, silica dust exposure, respiratory health risks, and the Heritage Group’s environmental safety history.

Fort Wayne Memorial Day Parades Honor Veterans And Fallen Service Members
• The annual Waynedale Memorial Day Parade took place May 25 starting at Wayne Dale United Methodist Church and ending at Prairie Grove Cemetery with a memorial ceremony.
• The Allen County Council of Veteran Organizations hosted a second parade beginning at Parnell Avenue and State Boulevard and ending at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
• Opening and closing ceremonies included prayers, national anthem performances, wreath placements, and remarks from veterans’ organization leaders and guest speakers.

City’s Namesake And Restoration Is Positively Fort Wayne
• Historic Fort Wayne is rebuilding and restoring aging structures at the Old Fort in downtown Fort Wayne.
• Board members said the project focuses on preserving the city’s origins, including reconstruction of the enlisted men’s barracks with a budget of $861,000.
• Volunteers and contractors are working together to maintain historical accuracy while keeping the site open for public education events.

SWAT, Police Respond To Mental Health Crisis In Northwest Fort Wayne
• Fort Wayne Police responded to reports of a suspicious person at Ridgebrook Mobile Home Park on Washington Center Road around 11:30 a.m. Monday.
• The department’s Public Safety Response Team, also known as SWAT, was called to assist with the situation involving a mental health crisis.
• Part of West Street was closed to vehicles while the response continued, with limited details released.

Crowds Gather For Fort Wayne Memorial Day Parade Traditions
• People lined Parnell Avenue on May 25 to watch the Fort Wayne Memorial Day Parade organized by the Allen County Council of Veteran Organizations.
• Parade attendees told WANE 15 they return each year to enjoy traditions, community gatherings, and parade attractions including sports cars and candy.

VFW Post 857 Rededicates Memorial To Include Afghanistan And Iraq Wars
• VFW Post 857 in Fort Wayne rededicated its memorial on May 25 to add the war in Afghanistan and the Second Gulf War to the monument.
• The memorial originally was dedicated in 2001 and previously recognized conflicts from World War I through the Persian Gulf conflict.
• Post leaders said the updated monument also includes additional space for future conflicts while honoring those who died serving the United States.

Trump Administration To Require Many Green Card Applicants To Apply From Abroad
• The Trump administration announced that many foreigners living legally in the United States will have to leave the country to apply for a green card.
• U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services said exceptions may apply in extraordinary circumstances or for people providing economic or national interest benefits.
• Immigration lawyers and aid groups warned the policy could separate families and create long delays for applicants from countries with limited visa processing.
