It’s a cool and breezy Thursday with scattered morning showers giving way to gray skies. Expect a high around 58°F, so keep that jacket handy. By night, skies start to clear and temps dip to a chilly 40°F. Bundle up if you’re heading out late!

🐢For the first time ever, a radiated tortoise at the Fort Wayne Zoo has laid eggs. Venus, one of the zoo's critically endangered tortoises, has laid multiple clutches—eight of her eggs are now viable and being carefully incubated. The zoo is participating in a national Species Survival Plan to help preserve the species. The eggs are expected to hatch this winter. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🏰The Siege of Fort Wayne 1812 will be reenacted at the Old Fort on June 7–8. The event features soldiers from the U.S., U.K., and Native American allies, along with demonstrations on period cooking, gardening, and crafts. Admission is free, and donations support restoration efforts at the nearly 50-year-old fort. Read more from WFFT here.
🚧City Council approved a $704,976 public works project along Carroll Road to improve water flow and quality. The project includes a new water main and nearly a dozen fire hydrants between Carroll Lake Drive and Dante's Voyage Drive. It’s expected to be completed by May 2026, though a start date has not been set. Read more from WFFT here.
🔫A loaded firearm was detected in a carry-on bag at Fort Wayne International Airport on Monday, marking the seventh firearm found at the airport this year—the same total as in 2024. TSA officials remind travelers that firearms must be packed properly in checked luggage. Violators face civil penalties and may lose TSA PreCheck privileges. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🎭Arts United has surpassed its $40 million Capital Campaign goal, raising $41.5 million to fund major renovations of the Arts United Center. The historic venue will reopen on October 25, 2025, featuring new elevators, upgraded theatrical technology, enhanced seating, and expanded lobby spaces aimed at improving accessibility and the overall patron experience. ✈️Honor Flight Northeast Indiana took 84 veterans to Washington, D.C., on its 51st flight, including veterans from the Korean, Cold, Vietnam, and Lebanon wars. The public is invited to welcome them home at Fort Wayne International Airport by 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21. Parking is free. Upcoming flights are scheduled for Sept. 10, Oct. 8, and Nov. 5. 🎒Wednesday marks the last day of classes for students at Fort Wayne Community Schools and East Allen County Schools. EACS staff showed unity with matching t-shirts for Solidarity Day. EACS students return August 6, and FWCS students return August 7. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🚨A 7-year-old child was shot early Wednesday morning while inside a home on Oliver Street. The shots came from outside, and the child, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, is in stable condition. Police believe the shooting was intentional and are asking for the public’s help. Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000 for information. Read more from WANE 15 here.

⚾ The Fort Wayne TinCaps opened their home series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels with a rain-shortened 5–1 loss. After a 28-minute pregame delay and continuous rain, the game was suspended after five innings. Cedar Rapids’ Kaelen Culpepper hit a leadoff home run on the first pitch. Fort Wayne stranded eight runners in the first three innings, while the Kernels racked up four runs in the fourth. Brendan Durfee drove in the TinCaps’ only run.
