📰News

🏫United Way of Allen County is funding a full-time case manager for Fort Wayne Community Schools’ Families in Transition program, supporting over 1,400 homeless students. The role helps with academics, behavior, and connecting families to essential services. FWCS accepts donations to help these students and families. You can donate here. Read more from WANE 15 here.

✈️Fort Wayne International Airport is getting $5.3 million to expand parking and fund other upgrades. The plan includes 500 new parking spots, snow removal equipment, and better street lighting. County Council approved the funding with a 5-0 vote. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🏌️Developer James Khan says the Back Nine golf center near I-469 won’t cause light or noise problems. A study showed no extra light at the property line and only soft noise. Some neighbors were worried, and City Councilman Russ Jehl said the golf spot didn’t fit the village plan. Khan made a form for the public to show support before the zoning board meeting Thursday. 🗳️Fort Wayne City Councilwoman Michelle Chambers was chosen by state Democrats to be Indiana’s new representative on the Democratic National Committee. She says her goal is to help get more Democrats elected and support party plans at the state and national level. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🔊Allen Superior Court is getting new sound systems in all 16 courtrooms after County Council approved $1.5 million in funding. The updates will help jurors hear better and improve virtual court sessions. Work will finish by the end of 2025. Read more from WANE 15 here.

👑Jennifer Garrison from Fort Wayne won the 2025 Mrs. Indiana American pageant and will compete at the national Mrs. American pageant in Las Vegas this August. She said the pageants help grow her nonprofit, which has given $15,000 to Indiana students. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🕷️Tick season is here, and Dr. Scott Stienecker says ticks are very active and they can spread diseases like Lyme disease and Ehrlichiosis. His biggest tip: don’t wear white. For pet owners, check your animals especially around their ears, neck, and legs. Ticks can latch onto pets and then end up crawling around your home. Lyme disease needs 8–12 hours on skin to spread, so remove ticks quickly. Experts says deer moving into northern Indiana is also part of why Lyme disease is spreading. Read more from WANE 15 here.

👩‍💼Over 300 sixth-grade girls are attending Take a Girl to Work Day at the Grand Wayne Center, hosted by the Women’s Fund of Greater Fort Wayne with local schools and businesses. The day includes mentoring, lunch with leaders, and visits to over 40 workplaces. Only 38% of leadership roles in Allen County are held by women, with women of color underrepresented. Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker and nonprofit Bring It Push It Own It will also participate. Read more from WANE 15 here.
