The day begins partly cloudy and mild, with temperatures climbing to around 72°F. Clouds will increase through the afternoon, and a stray shower or thunderstorm could pop up as SSW winds blow at 10–20 mph. Tonight turns more active as showers and thunderstorms become likely (90% chance). Expect a low near 56°F with continued SSW winds at 10–15 mph and a humid feel under cloudy skies. Keep the umbrella handy if you’ll be out in the evening!

Fort Wayne Announces Spring Leaf Collection
• Brown biodegradable paper leaf bags will be collected March 23 through April 3.
• Residents must place bags by the curb and call 311 for pickup within two business days.
• Only leaves should be placed in approved bags, and bags in alleys will not be collected.

Business Excellence Award Nominations Now Open in Allen County
• Greater Fort Wayne Inc. is accepting nominations for Small Business, Nonprofit, and Business Excellence awards.
• Nominations open March 9 and close April 1 at 8 a.m.
• Winners will be announced at the GFW Annual Meeting on June 4.

Homestead Students Stage Walkout to Protest ICE
• About 10 students protested Monday morning across the street from Homestead High School, calling for the arrest of predators and opposing ICE.
• Protesters emphasized the importance of student voices in politics and supporting oppressed communities.
• The school district reminded students that demonstrations on school grounds during instructional hours are not permitted.

Google Grants $35,000 to Blessings in a Backpack
• The grant will fund supplemental weekend meals for Fort Wayne Community Schools students.
• About 70% of FWCS students face food insecurity, making the program critical during weekends and school closures.
• Google’s support aims to stabilize food access amid rising costs and other challenges affecting local children.

Middle Waves Music Festival Returns to Headwaters Park
• The festival will take place June 6 at Lincoln Pavilion, featuring Passion Pit, Beach Bunny, The Paradox, and local acts Man of the Flood and Los Aptos.
• Attendees can enjoy yard games, a glitter bar, flower crowns, local artists, and food vendors.
• Tickets are $45 for adults, $10 for kids, and $100 for VIP, with gates opening at 3 p.m. and music starting at 4 p.m.

Detached Garage Catches Fire in Northeast Allen County
• Fire crews responded around 7:30 p.m. Sunday to a fire at 5100 block of Vandolah Road in Leo-Cedarville.
• At least three fire trucks were on scene, and no injuries have been reported.
• Officials are working to extinguish the fire, and details are still developing.

Fort Wayne Patrol Sweep Results in Drug and Traffic Arrests
• Indiana State Police made four drug-related and 12 traffic-related arrests during a Friday night patrol.
• The operation lasted about four hours, starting near Goshen Road and Coliseum Boulevard and expanding citywide.
• Troopers issued dozens of traffic warnings despite challenging weather conditions.

Former Northeast Indiana Officer Sentenced for Rape
• Conner Esmond, 29, pleaded guilty to raping a woman in her Fort Wayne home in 2023.
• He was sentenced to nine years total, with three years in prison, six years suspended, and three years of probation.
• Esmond previously worked as a confinement officer and patrol officer in multiple northeast Indiana police agencies.

Uber Expands Women Only Ride Matching Feature Across the U.S.
• Uber launched a nationwide option allowing women riders and drivers to match with other women through a feature called Women Drivers.
• The option lets passengers request a woman driver, reserve rides in advance, or set a preference in app settings to increase the chances of matching with one.
• The rollout comes as Uber faces a class action lawsuit in California from drivers who argue the policy discriminates against men.
