New Screwworm Cases Found Across Texas As Officials Race To Contain Parasite
• Two additional cases of the New World screwworm were confirmed in Texas, bringing the state's total to four cases involving two calves and one dog.
• The flesh-eating fly larvae infest open wounds in warm-blooded animals, and officials are investigating suspected cases while working to eliminate the pest.
• Federal authorities are expanding sterile fly production and planning a large Texas facility, while some state officials argue faster control measures are needed.
