Temperatures reach around 86°F with SSW winds and high humidity making it feel quite sticky. Showers continue into the night under cloudy skies, with a chance of thunder and an overnight low near 69°F.

Cooling Stations Available Across Fort Wayne This Summer
• The City of Fort Wayne has opened public cooling stations through Sept. 1 to help residents escape extreme heat.
• Locations include the Allen County Public Library Main Branch, Botanical Conservatory, Citilink Central Station, Inasmuch Ministry, The Rescue Mission, and The Salvation Army.
• Additional evening cooling shelter partners are being sought by the Office of Housing and Neighborhood Services.

Indiana To Survey SNAP Recipients About Smart SNAP Program
• The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration will begin offering the anonymous Healthy Food, Healthy Life survey to SNAP recipients starting Tuesday.
• The survey will be conducted every six months and will gather information about program awareness, shopping habits, and eating and drinking behaviors.
• Participation is voluntary, will not affect SNAP benefits, and recipients will receive survey invitations by text message from 43816.

City Launches Georgetown Blackhawk 2040 Neighborhood Planning Effort
• The City of Fort Wayne has launched a website to gather community input for the Georgetown Blackhawk 2040 Neighborhood Plan covering 39 northeast side neighborhoods.
• Residents can use the website to access information, complete a survey, and mark improvement areas on an interactive map.
• Public engagement events are scheduled for Aug. 6 at Kreager Park and Sept. 25 at the ACPL Georgetown Back to School Bash.

Solfest Returns To Metea County Park On June 20
• Solfest will take place at Metea County Park on June 20 from noon until 10:30 p.m. with activities for all ages.
• The festival will feature local music acts including URB, Grateful Groove, Sunny Taylor, Train Hoppers, and Allena York.
• Organizers encourage attendees to bring swimsuits, towels, coolers, and ice to enjoy the lake and stay cool throughout the day.

Four Fort Wayne Groups Receive Opioid Settlement Mini Grants
• Four local organizations each received $10,000 through the City of Fort Wayne’s Opioid Settlement Fund Mini Grant Program.
• The grants will support veteran peer services, behavioral health programs for people transitioning from homelessness, language access for recovery services, and workforce development opportunities.
• City leaders said the funding is intended to expand community-based efforts addressing opioid use and overdose challenges.

Concordia Lutheran To Join Allen County Athletic Conference In 2027
• Concordia Lutheran High School will leave the Summit Athletic Conference and join the Allen County Athletic Conference beginning with the 2027-28 school year.
• School leaders said the move supports competing against schools of similar size while continuing to provide a strong athletic experience for student athletes.
• Concordia plans to maintain longtime rivalries with Fort Wayne area schools through nonconference competition after the transition.

Ivy Tech Food Truck Opens For Summer Season Tuesday
• Ivy Tech Fort Wayne’s student run Grasshopper food truck begins its 2026 season on Tuesday at the Coliseum Campus.
• The food truck will operate every Tuesday through Thursday with lunch service and additional Thursday evening hours.
• Ten new menu items have been added this season, bringing the total menu to 15 offerings.

Grand Hotel: The Musical Opens At Arena Dinner Theatre
• The Arena Dinner Theatre is presenting Grand Hotel: The Musical, a story set in 1920s Berlin that explores themes of reinvention, ambition, and how people choose to live.
• The production features full costumes, choreography, and a set designed to recreate the atmosphere of the Grand Hotel.
• Performances are scheduled for June 12, 13, 19, 20, 21, 26, and 27 in Fort Wayne.

Fort Wayne Boy Raises More Than $1,000 To Help Children In Emergencies
• Eight year old Mason Lencke sold lemonade at a block party Friday to raise money for local law enforcement.
• The funds will be used to buy stuffed animals that Fort Wayne police officers can give to children during emergencies and distressing situations.
• Mason raised more than $1,000 and plans to shop for the stuffed animals with police officers in the coming weeks.

Victim Identified In Fatal Hit And Run Crash
• The Allen County Coroner’s Office identified the pedestrian killed Saturday as 24 year old DaQuon Sincere Reed of Fort Wayne.
• Reed died from multiple blunt force injuries after being struck by a vehicle near South Hanna Street and East Sherwood Terrace.
• His death was ruled an accident and remains under investigation by local law enforcement and county officials.

Fort Wayne Man Sentenced In Sexual Assault Case
• A 58 year old Fort Wayne man was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty in a rape case connected to an October 2024 assault.
• Court records state investigators found videos showing the victim unconscious and unresponsive during a search of electronic devices seized from the defendant's home.
• The sentence may be modified if he successfully completes a clinically appropriate substance abuse treatment program.

New Screwworm Cases Found Across Texas As Officials Race To Contain Parasite
• Two additional cases of the New World screwworm were confirmed in Texas, bringing the state's total to four cases involving two calves and one dog.
• The flesh-eating fly larvae infest open wounds in warm-blooded animals, and officials are investigating suspected cases while working to eliminate the pest.
• Federal authorities are expanding sterile fly production and planning a large Texas facility, while some state officials argue faster control measures are needed.

Why it matters here:
The parasite poses a threat to livestock, pets, and wildlife, and a wider outbreak could create economic challenges for the cattle industry and increase animal health concerns.
