📰News

🍚 BIBIBOP has officially opened its newest location on East Dupont Road in Fort Wayne. Known for its customizable bowls, the Asian-inspired eatery allows customers to choose from various bases, proteins, vegetables, and sauces—perfect for gluten-free, vegan, or high-protein diets. The brand, which already has multiple locations in Indianapolis, held a grand opening Wednesday morning. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🏓 Ace Pickleball Club in Fort Wayne is offering free Pickleball 101 classes for beginners. The sessions include clinics with provided paddles, balls, and a skilled instructor. Participants should wear clean athletic gear and arrive 15 minutes early. Registration is required before attending. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🌊 Coastal Cove is officially open at the Fort Wayne Zoo after four years of construction. The exhibit features returning sea lions Cassandra and Valkyrie, and introduces Ronan the harbor seal. Guests can enjoy a new sunning beach, shaded seating, and interactive displays highlighting differences between seals and sea lions. A second harbor seal and two more sea lions will join the exhibit soon. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🎒 Blessings in a Backpack is launching “Brave Bags” filled with food, hygiene items, and comfort supplies for children facing abuse, neglect, or trauma. Starting July 17, the bags will be placed in Three Rivers Ambulance Authority (TRAA) vehicles. The idea was co-developed by William Beauchemin, who drew on his foster care experiences to help shape the contents. The goal is to fill 300 bags for 75 ambulances. Donations are currently being accepted. Read more from WANE 15 here.

📉 Senate Enrolled Act 1 aims to lower property taxes with a 10% credit, up to $300, shifting funding from property taxes to local income taxes (LIT). Fort Wayne and Allen County are now planning for potential revenue changes by 2028. City and county leaders may raise LIT rates to maintain services, though the exact impact is still unknown. The maximum combined LIT is capped at 2.9%. City officials encourage residents to assess their own tax burden and prepare for possible changes. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🏘️ Fort Wayne leaders are working on solutions to homelessness as the city grows. A “zero-barrier shelter” model is being explored, allowing broader access to services. Downtown’s Clean and Safe Team now includes a homeless advocate. Funding will come from local property owners through a special district, not public taxes. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚨 Greater Fort Wayne Crime Stoppers is shifting its message after a 7-year-old was shot while sleeping. Coordinator Ken Fries called for an end to violence, aiming to “shock the conscience” and encourage more people to share tips. The agency has already spent more on tips this year than in all of 2024. Fries said public help is increasing and plans to continue this direct messaging. Sheriff Troy Hershberger will address the violence in a press conference Wednesday. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚗 A man died Tuesday after being accidentally run over by his own vehicle in a neighborhood off Winchester Road. Fort Wayne Police responded to Ardis Drive around noon and found the man on the ground with significant injuries. Investigators say the man parked and exited his vehicle when it rolled backward over him. He died later at the hospital. Read more from WANE 15 here.
