Displaced Vendors Create New Fort Wayne Marketplace For Small Businesses
• Two former Painted Tree vendors opened Mercantile Collective in the Village at Coventry after losing their retail space when Painted Tree closed in April
• The owners had just 10 days to remove merchandise from six locations following the marketplace’s abrupt shutdown
• The new marketplace includes space for other displaced vendors and was created to help small businesses continue operating after the closure

A Lasting Legacy: Honoring Fort Wayne’s First Black Homebuilder
• Community members gathered at Brewer Park on Sunday to honor Roosevelt Barnes Sr., recognized as Fort Wayne’s first Black homebuilder
• Organizations including Indiana Landmarks Black Heritage Preservation Program and others are documenting his work and preserving the history of homes he built in Southeast Fort Wayne
• Barnes began building homes around 1957 during the era of redlining and is credited with constructing more than 40 homes and several churches in the Southern Heights neighborhood by 1970

Fort Wayne Imam Responds To Lt. Gov. Beckwith’s Comments On Islam
• Fort Wayne Imam Hamzah Sharif said recent comments about Islam by Indiana Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith have caused concern and fear among members of the local Muslim community
• Sharif said some mosque attendees have raised security concerns following the remarks and asked about safety measures being taken at the facility
• The imam invited Beckwith to visit the mosque and encouraged dialogue, while Beckwith said he supports Muslims but believes Islamic ideology is incompatible with American values

Crash Snarls Traffic On Stretch Of West Jefferson Near Time Corners
• At least two people were injured in a crash on West Jefferson near Time Corners late Monday morning
• The crash happened just before 11:45 a.m. near a shopping center entrance and restricted traffic to one lane in each direction
• Officials have not released details on the number of vehicles involved or the cause of the crash

Coroner Identifies Man Killed In East Rudisill Shooting
• The Allen County Coroner’s Office identified the victim of a May 30 shooting on East Rudisill Boulevard as 22-year-old Carlos Roberto Torrijos
• Fort Wayne Police found Torrijos unresponsive at the scene, where medics pronounced him dead shortly after midnight
• An autopsy determined he died from multiple gunshot wounds, and the death was ruled a homicide, marking Fort Wayne’s 14th homicide of 2026

FWPD Works To De-Escalate Mental Health Crisis
• Fort Wayne Police responded Monday afternoon to The Meridian Apartments on Bunt Drive after reports that a woman was throwing items from a second-story window
• Officers heard windows being broken inside the apartment and requested assistance from the Crisis Negotiation Team and Emergency Services Team after the woman refused to leave
• Negotiators are working to obtain a mental health evaluation order while police ask the public to avoid the area during the ongoing response

Deadly Shooting At Fort Wayne Gas Station Was Caught On Camera
• Court records say surveillance video captured an argument and physical confrontation between 22-year-old Carlos Roberto Torrijos and 21-year-old Aquileo Reducindo outside a gas station on Rudisill Boulevard
• Investigators say Reducindo pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots as Torrijos attempted to flee, with nine shell casings recovered from the scene
• Reducindo turned himself in several hours later and is being held in the Allen County Jail with an initial court appearance scheduled for Tuesday

Man To Serve 40 Years For Attempted Murder In Hotel Shooting
• A 28-year-old man pleaded guilty to attempted murder after a December shooting at a Traveler’s Inn hotel on East Washington Boulevard in Fort Wayne
• Prosecutors said he fired ten shots at a victim after knocking on the hotel room door, causing non-life-threatening injuries
• He was sentenced to 40 years in prison, to be served consecutively with a prior three-year sentence for a separate firearm conviction

• Fort Wayne lost 7-5 to South Bend on Sunday after surrendering four runs in the seventh inning and dropping five of six games in the series
• The TinCaps built an early 3-0 lead in the first inning behind a Kasen Wells RBI double and a two-run triple by Kavares Tears
• Fort Wayne returns to Parkview Field on Tuesday to begin a six-game series against Lake County with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

• Oil prices jumped more than 7% after the announcement as concerns grew over global energy supplies and regional stability
