Hi – 90° Low – 70° | 🌤️ Hot with a Stray Storm | Wind SW 10–20 mph (day), WSW 10–15 mph (night)
Friday will be hot with a mix of sun and clouds. A stray thunderstorm could pop up in the afternoon, but most of the day stays dry. Highs hit 90°F with moderate humidity at 66%. Breezy southwest winds and a very high UV index mean sunscreen and water are must-haves. Friday night brings a chance for scattered evening storms (40% chance), followed by cloudy skies overnight. The low will be around 70°F with rising humidity at 85%.

📰News

🐾 Humane Fort Wayne now offers a free, 24-hour microchip scanning station to help reunite lost pets with their owners. The self-serve scanner, located outside the shelter at 901 Leesburg Road, includes instructions, chip lookup links, and pet recovery hotlines. In celebration of the launch, a free microchip clinic for up to 200 pets is set for Saturday from 12–3 p.m. at the same location. 🏘️ Fort Wayne City Council approved a sweeping rezoning project for all of Waynedale, aiming to shift the area from outdated industrial zoning to a more family-friendly, small-business-focused environment. Officials say the change supports long-term community development and updates zoning that’s been in place since the 1950s. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🏅 Northeast Indiana athletes and Unified partners have been named to Team Indiana for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games in Minneapolis, taking place June 20–26. They will compete in 10 sports including soccer, golf, and bocce. Athletes from Allen, Jay, and DeKalb counties will represent the region as part of a delegation of over 100. 🏗️ Mayor Sharon Tucker announced that the Northwest Central and East State Village neighborhoods will each receive $1 million through the Connected Neighborhoods initiative. Funded in part by a land sale to Google, the revitalization will improve pedestrian infrastructure, safety, and commercial corridors. 🌳 Friends of the Parks of Allen County held its annual meeting Wednesday at Foster Park, highlighting efforts to improve local parks. City Councilmen Russ Jehl and Geoff Paddock joined a panel discussion on changing park funding. The nonprofit also reviewed its annual report and elected new officers. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🌞 As the TinCaps begin a five-game homestand at Parkview Field, fans are encouraged to stay cool and hydrated. Shaded areas, a splash pad, and an air-conditioned gift shop offer relief from the heat. ⚖️ A felony charge has been filed against Dayshanique Lashai Sanders for allegedly lying to police during a May 27 standoff involving wanted man Javonta Royal. Sanders denied anyone else was in her apartment, but Royal was later found hiding in a neighbor’s unit after entering through her attic. Sanders is charged with assisting a criminal, while Royal faces charges for escape and failure to return to lawful detention. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🔫 Two people were killed Thursday afternoon in a shooting near Weisser Park. Police say a man and woman were involved in an altercation when the man allegedly shot the woman as she tried to drive away. Her car crashed into a nearby home, and another individual returned fire, killing the man. Authorities are still searching for that shooter. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚨 A 17-year-old identified as Josiyah Derrick has been charged as an adult in the fatal shooting at Tillman Park. Court documents reveal the 20-year-old victim, Eriyn Brionne White, may not have been the intended target. Derrick allegedly admitted to firing at someone else over a personal dispute and later bragged about the shooting on Instagram. The teen faces charges of murder and unlawful carrying of a handgun due to a prior conviction. He’s being held in the Allen County Jail without bond. Read more from WANE 15 here.

The TinCaps struggled on the mound Wednesday night, walking 12 batters in an 11–0 loss to the Great Lakes Loons at Parkview Field. Starter Harry Gustin allowed one earned run in the first inning, while Fort Wayne pitchers gave up 12 hits and 10 earned runs overall.
