Get ready for a scorcher! Monday will be mostly sunny with near-record heat as highs climb to 96°F. Southwest winds at 10–15 mph offer a little breeze, but with humidity at 58%, it’ll feel even hotter. The UV index is very high, so take precautions if you're outside hydrate and wear sun protection. Monday night stays warm and clear, with a low around 75°F. Light southwest winds continue and humidity rises to 68%. A warm summer night ahead perfect for some stargazing.

🎡 Summer Fest 2025 returns to downtown New Haven from Thursday, June 26, through Saturday, June 28. The festival is free to attend and offers different family-friendly activities each day with unique themes. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🎶 Middle Waves Music Festival is back at Headwaters Park on Saturday, June 28. The festival features five bands, with gates opening at 3 p.m. and performances starting at 4 p.m. General admission is $45, kids 12 and under are $10, and VIP tickets are $100. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🛍️ The Summer Artisan Market at the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory is happening on Sunday, June 29, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. It’s a great way to enjoy summer and beat the heat while supporting local vendors. Nate Cardelli, the Conservatory’s General Manager, shared details about the event in an interview with WANE 15. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🎓 Parkview Health and Trine University are launching a new program to support students pursuing careers in surgical technology. Starting fall 2025, up to 10 students will be selected for the Parkview Academy of Surgical Technology. Participants will receive paid apprenticeships, full tuition coverage, and employee benefits. After completing the program, students will be offered surgical technologist positions at Parkview Health. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚧 Construction is officially underway on the Headwaters Park splash pad, which has been closed since 2020. Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation received approval from City Council and is aiming to have the splash pad up and running later in 2025. Demolition is complete, and crews are now focused on building and testing new components to ensure safety and performance. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🗑️ Fort Wayne Public Works is adjusting trash pickup times due to rising summer temperatures. On days that reach 90°F or higher, GFL Environmental will begin collection an hour earlier likely starting at 5 a.m. soon. Residents are encouraged to place garbage and recycling bins out the night before their scheduled pickup. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🐾 Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control is reminding pet owners to keep their animals safe this summer. Pets can suffer heat-related illnesses quickly, especially when left in vehicles or exposed to high temperatures. City ordinance requires pets to be in temperature-controlled environments when it’s above 85°F. Tips include providing shade, clean water, limiting walks to cooler times of day, and recognizing signs of heat stroke. To report an animal in distress, call 260-427-1244. 🥎 Bryon Swing, a deaf father and softball coach, is inspiring others by leading his daughter’s team with determination and heart. With support from The League and the Northeast Indiana Deaf Awareness Council, he now has an interpreter at all practices and games. His coaching shows how inclusion and communication can build stronger communities and teach hearing children about the deaf experience. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚔 A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting near Rudisill Boulevard and Tacoma Avenue in southwest Fort Wayne. The victim was found dead in a church parking lot on Thursday. Police tracked leads to Ossian and eventually arrested the teen Thursday night on Bluffton Road. He is currently in custody at the Allen County Juvenile Center. The case remains under investigation. The Fort Wayne TinCaps opened the second half of the season with a 10-0 blowout win over the Dayton Dragons on Saturday.
