Good morning, Fort Wayne! Here is today’s update.

Today’s Weather

Friday, June 20
Hi – 86° Low – 69° | 🌤️ Partly Sunny, Turning Cloudy | Wind WSW 10–15 mph (day), SSW 10–15 mph (night)
Friday will start off with some sunshine before clouds build in during the afternoon. It’ll be warm with a high near 86°F and moderate humidity at 64%. Winds from the west-southwest will add a bit of a breeze, and the UV index is high, so sunscreen is still a must. Friday night stays mild and partly cloudy, with a low of 69°F. Light winds from the south-southwest continue, and humidity rises slightly. Great night to unwind outdoors.

📰News

🍗 Zeb’s Chicken Shack has permanently closed its Fort Wayne location just south of downtown after 3.5 years in business. Owner Nate Wright, who opened the restaurant in memory of his late brother Zebulon, announced the closure on Facebook, citing unforeseen circumstances. The post thanked the community for their support over the years. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🎉 Greek Fest 2025 runs June 19–22 at Headwaters Park, offering authentic Greek food, music, and traditional dancing. Enjoy gyros, kebabs, and lamb shanks, plus Greek beer for adults. Live music begins daily at noon, with performances by the Omega Dancers at 8:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Admission is free until 4 p.m. on Thursday–Saturday and all day Sunday. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🎈 Community Harvest Food Bank hosted its third annual Juneteenth celebration Thursday at Tillman Park. Attendees enjoyed free lunch, a live DJ, balloon animals, haircuts, games, dancing, and giveaways. Vendors included Science Central, Parkview Health, and more. Sports cars and a fire truck were also on display during the 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. event. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🎆 As the Fourth of July approaches, some consumers are concerned about tariffs raising fireworks prices. While tariffs have hit the industry, local shops like Pyromaniac Fireworks and Inferno Fireworks say prices will remain steady this summer. Year-round shops have avoided the impact by stocking inventory early, but seasonal stores could feel the pinch. Inferno Fireworks doubled its orders this year to offset future price hikes. Industry leaders continue lobbying for tariff exemptions as they prepare for the big 250th U.S. Independence Day in 2026. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🌩️ Severe storms moved through northeast Indiana Wednesday evening, knocking out power for thousands. Over 1,800 customers were affected in Steuben County alone, though that number dropped to under 100 by nightfall. Additional outages were reported in areas like Marion, Gas City, and Portland. Viewers also shared hail sightings, especially in Whitley County. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚗 The family of 48-year-old Michael Tarail Bright is asking for help after he was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Fort Wayne. Police have not yet released a vehicle description. Bright’s daughter, Natasjah, described him as loving and family-oriented, and urged anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be submitted to Fort Wayne Police, Crime Stoppers, or via the P3 app. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🔫 Fort Wayne police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened Thursday afternoon near Rudisill Boulevard and Tacoma Avenue. One person was confirmed dead, and officers taped off the parking lot of a nearby church for the investigation. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. near Foster Park. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚨 A 15-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after a May 21 shooting injured a 7-year-old child inside a home on Oliver Street. The shots were fired from outside the house. The suspect, arrested Wednesday on Eastwick Drive, also faces charges of battery and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. Police say the shooting was not believed to be random. The child remains in stable condition. Read more from WANE 15 here.
