📰News
🏡 Fort Wayne’s Kirkwood Park neighborhood is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Developed after World War II, the area features about 150 Colonial Revival and Ranch-style homes, with its original plat dating back to 1938. The neighborhood was officially listed on May 19 following a nomination submitted in 2022. Community members hope the designation builds pride and highlights the area's heritage. ⚡ GOEVIN’s “Closing the Gap Tour” made a stop in Fort Wayne Monday to promote expanding Indiana’s electric vehicle charging network. The goal is to install chargers every 50 miles along major highways. Up to 75% of costs for eligible projects can be covered by local, state, or federal funding. The initiative encourages businesses and workplaces to apply for support to build charging stations that will serve drivers through 2030. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🎓 Allen County Superior Court celebrated its 58th Drug Court Program graduation Monday at the Allen County Courthouse. Forty-four individuals, ages 20 to 57, completed an average of 15 months in the program, totaling 612 months of sobriety and 6,369 hours of treatment. Graduates achieved major milestones like finding housing, securing jobs, pursuing education, and reconnecting with loved ones. The program helps reduce reoffending by combining treatment, prevention, and court structure. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🛍️ Fort Wayne officials, AMP Lab high school students, and the Fort Wayne Marketing Group are teaming up to create a branding concept for Waynedale’s business corridor. The effort began with business surveys in March, which led to three logo options that were shared for community voting. The winning design will be featured on banners along Bluffton and Lower Huntington Roads to unify the area’s identity. Organizers hope the project builds pride and encourages growth among Waynedale businesses. The final brand will be chosen in July and installed by August. Read more from WFFT here.
🚨 A 15-year-old boy was injured Monday in a hit-and-run on Aboite Center Road near the Jorgensen Family YMCA. The teen was hit by a pickup truck while crossing the street and the driver did not stop. The boy suffered abrasions, was bleeding from his elbows and knees, limping, and had neck pain. Fort Wayne Fire Department assisted him, and his condition was determined to be non-life-threatening. No suspect has been identified. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🐶 Firefighters responded early Tuesday to a house fire on Maywood Circle on Fort Wayne’s south side. When they arrived, they found a homeowner trying to put out the flames with a garden hose. Crews searched the home and rescued a dog before extinguishing the fire. A smoke detector had alerted three adults inside, who made it out safely. The fire was ruled accidental. 🎡 The Allen County Fair has called the fairgrounds home since 1989, but before that, it was held in the basement of the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. Limited space meant no rides or concessions, and the indoor livestock setup brought challenges. Before the Coliseum, the fair rotated between private properties and neighboring counties. Organizers say today’s fairgrounds offer a sense of community and a space for people of all ages to showcase their skills. The 2025 Allen County Fair runs June 17–22. Read more from WANE 15 here.
