Any lingering early storms give way to a much nicer day with a mix of sunshine and clouds and warm afternoon temperatures around 87°F. Westerly winds of 10–15 mph and lower humidity make conditions feel more comfortable than earlier in the week, while the UV index remains very high. The evening turns clear and pleasant, with temperatures cooling to a comfortable 65°F overnight under mostly clear skies.

Two Road Closures Scheduled In Northwest Allen County
• Lima Road will close between Woods Road and Gump Road beginning Thursday for a water main replacement project.
• Hathaway Road will close between Hand Road and Bethel Road starting Monday for water main installation work.

More Than 1 Million Hoosier Households Struggle To Afford Basic Needs
• A new United Way of Indiana report found that 38% of Indiana households, more than 1 million households, cannot afford basic necessities.
• The report says rising costs for housing, child care, food, transportation, health care, and technology continue to outpace inflation.
• Data showed a family of four in Indiana needed at least $74,028 in 2024 to cover essential living expenses, compared to the federal poverty level of $31,200.

Komets Head Coach Jesse Kallechy Steps Away After Three Seasons
• Jesse Kallechy declined a long-term contract offer from the Komets and said the decision was based on what is best for his family.
• Associate head coach Olivier Legault and assistant coach Cory Melkert remain under contract for next season, which begins Oct. 17 against Toledo.
• Kallechy finished his Fort Wayne tenure with a 121 to 69 to 24 regular season record and led the team to the Western Conference Finals this season.

El Niño Strengthens Rapidly And Could Become One Of The Strongest On Record
• NOAA says El Niño has officially formed and has a 63% chance of becoming a very strong event that could rank among the largest since records began in 1950.
• Forecasters expect the pattern to continue through fall and likely into winter, bringing major shifts in weather patterns around the world.
• The climate pattern is expected to raise global temperatures further, increasing the likelihood that 2027 becomes the hottest year ever recorded.
