📰News
💰 Mayor Sharon Tucker announced that 22 Fort Wayne area nonprofits are receiving about $380,000 in grant funds to support low- and moderate-income residents. The funding—sourced from the city’s federal Community Development Block Grant and Emergency Solutions Grant programs—will assist with shelter, basic needs, job skills, and youth development. Awardees include Blue Jacket, Brightpoint, Catholic Charities, Just Neighbors, YWCA Northeast Indiana, and more. Fort Wayne continues to prioritize nonprofit support despite federal CDBG cuts seen in other cities. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🌳Developers of the Tree Line District, a public-private project set to replace the former downtown Pepsi plant, aim to break ground by late 2025. The plan includes three buildings: “The Canopy” (a 7-story mixed-use private building), “The Boathouse” (city-owned, possible restaurant or bike rental), and “The Treehouse” (potential public rentable space). Residents voiced concerns over parking, design, and details, but city officials say dialogue will continue to address feedback. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🚗 The HOT ROD Power Tour returns to Fort Wayne Wednesday, June 11, bringing thousands of classic cars and custom pickups to the Memorial Coliseum. Vehicles will arrive between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., with the event running from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. Traffic is expected to be heavy on Coliseum Boulevard, Parnell Avenue, and nearby roads. Spectator parking will not be available at the Coliseum, but free parking is available at Purdue Fort Wayne visitor lots, with pedestrian access via the St. Joe River Pathway. Admission is free for all attendees. Read more from WANE 15 here.
📋 Fort Wayne Councilwoman Michelle Chambers issued a statement urging the Indiana Alcohol & Tobacco Commission to conduct a full and transparent review of Pike’s Pub. This follows a May 30 assault where video footage showed white men in Outlaw gear attacking a Black man, James Simmons, with racial slurs heard in the background. Chambers did not join a public letter calling for an immediate license revocation but emphasized the need for due process and accountability. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🛢️ Emergency crews in responded Monday night to a large soybean oil spill that created hazardous conditions and led to multiple crashes. The spill began at Lafayette and Main and stretched 3.5 miles north to Lima and I-69. A motorcycle crash at Clinton and Field left one man with life-threatening injuries, temporarily closing the northbound lane of Clinton Street. Crews used oil absorbents along the route, and cleanup efforts led by INDOT are ongoing. Hazardous conditions on US 27 persisted into Tuesday morning. Read more from WANE 15 here.
✈️Fort Wayne International Airport is asking travelers to arrive early due to TSA equipment problems. Passengers on Allegiant should arrive two hours before departure, while those on other airlines should arrive 90 minutes early. Delays may continue through Wednesday. 🎆Parkview Field will be closed on July 4th as the TinCaps play an away game in Lansing. The team won’t be home for the holiday for the first time since 2008 (excluding 2020).
