📚 Kate’s Kart, founded in memory of 18-month-old Kate Layman, is celebrating 17 years of giving free books to children in hospitals. What began as a small gesture has grown into 45 carts in 25 hospitals across northeast Indiana. The organization helps families bond during medical crises through shared reading experiences. Volunteers, many of them former recipients, now help deliver books that bring comfort and joy. This summer, Kate’s Kart will give away its 500,000th book. To support the cause, its annual Ice Cream Social Fundraiser is happening June 21–22 across more than 30 locations, aiming to raise $110,000. Read more from WANE 15 here.

The suspect tried to run but was caught and taken to the hospital for evaluation. Indiana State Police are investigating the incident. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🚫 Terry Lee Sowles Jr. received an 11-year suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty but mentally ill to aggravated battery in the 2024 shooting of his pregnant wife. The incident occurred in a northeast Fort Wayne neighborhood off Maysville Road. Sowles claimed the shooting was accidental, but the couple’s daughter told police it was intentional. Several other charges, including domestic battery and criminal recklessness, were dismissed as part of the plea deal. Read more from WANE 15 here.
⚖️ Daniel Rodgers-Conwell Jr. was sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty but mentally ill to attempted murder. 🕹️ Two 18-year-olds, Devon Stewart Jr. and William Britt, are facing murder charges in the shooting death of 86-year-old Alice Hall on Colerick Street.
