🎪 Big Fort Fest is happening next week in Fort Wayne, and organizers are still looking for volunteers to help things run smoothly. 🏥 Oxford Clinic has officially opened in southeast Fort Wayne, offering quality, affordable healthcare at the site of the former Ward Elementary School. The $20 million project, led by Neighborhood Health, was made possible through wide community support. The clinic provides primary care, prenatal care, and behavioral health services, with dental and sensory-specific care launching later this month. A full-service pharmacy is expected this fall. The facility also aims to create jobs and improve health outcomes in the area. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🚲 Pedals of Hope is a local organization founded by Brian Glass to make sure every child experiences the joy and freedom of having a bike. What started as a holiday mission from Glass’s garage has grown into a year-round effort, now delivering over 200 bikes each Christmas. With help from his family, volunteers, and organizations like Heart of the City, Pedals of Hope collects, refurbishes, and donates bikes to kids and adults in need. They’ve now shifted toward fundraising to purchase new bikes for their Christmas giveaways. Donations can be made through a secure PayPal link. Read more from WANE 15 here.
⚖️ A murder charge against 17-year-old Josiyah Derrick in connection with the Tillman Park shooting has been dismissed. The incident happened during a large gathering on June 23, where 20-year-old Eriyn Brionne White was killed and another person was critically injured. Court records show Derrick allegedly admitted to firing shots, but prosecutors filed a motion to dismiss the case “without prejudice,” meaning charges could be refiled in the future. 🚔 Two people have been arrested in connection with Saturday’s downtown Fort Wayne shooting that left one person dead and three others injured. A 16-year-old boy is facing multiple charges, including murder and attempted murder, while 18-year-old Ni’Shawn Jackson is charged with attempted murder and criminal recklessness. Police recovered multiple firearms during a search on Woodhaven Drive. The victims, all between the ages of 15 and 18, have since been treated and discharged, except for the 16-year-old who died at the hospital. Read more from WANE 15 here.
