A cooler and more comfortable day settles in with mostly cloudy skies and scattered showers, along with the chance for an isolated thunderstorm. Afternoon highs reach around 84°F, while light north-northwest winds and increased cloud cover help keep temperatures in check compared to recent days. Rain chances are around 40%, with most showers expected to be brief. Conditions improve during the evening as skies become partly cloudy, and overnight temperatures drop to a refreshing low near 62°F under light north-northeast winds.

Lane Closure Planned On Ardmore Avenue For Water Main Project
•The far west southbound lane of Ardmore Avenue between W Jefferson Boulevard and N Washington Road will close starting Monday, July 6.
•The closure is part of the Westwood Fairway Water Main Replacement Project to replace aging water pipes.
•City officials expect the lane closure to remain in place for about one week.

I 469 On Ramp From U.S. 27 To Close For Pavement Repairs
•The eastbound I 469 on ramp from U.S. 27 will close Monday, July 6, from about 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for pavement patching.
•Drivers will need to use an alternate route while the ramp is closed.
•The work is weather dependent and the schedule may change.

Hot Chickz To Open Second Fort Wayne Location
•Hot Chickz is preparing to open a second restaurant at 407 W. Coliseum Boulevard after less than two years at its East Pontiac Street location.
•The new restaurant will be located near Mission BBQ and Crumbl Cookie and will feature new menu items alongside customer favorites.
•Owners hope to hold a grand opening with giveaways by the end of the month or as early as July 10 and plan to open a third location in the future.

Ruoff Mortgage Stadium Opens As Fort Wayne FC Unveils New Mascot
•Fort Wayne Football Club celebrated the opening of Ruoff Mortgage Stadium with a ribbon cutting ceremony and a match.
•The team introduced its official mascot, Friendly the Goal Rilla, a gorilla with a soccer ball pattern and a golden mohawk.
•Team owner Mark Music said the stadium is intended to host soccer matches as well as concerts, weddings, festivals, and other community events.

Holiday Lights Returning To Parkview Field This Winter
•Parkview Field's Holiday Lights will run from Nov. 12 through Jan. 2 with about 2 million lights, doubling the display from its 2024 debut.
•Visitors can enjoy attractions including Johnny Claus, a 30 foot Christmas tree, holiday train rides, letter writing to Santa, and s'mores making.
•Tickets are on sale now, with individual admission starting at $12 in November and $14 in December and January.

Coney Island Earns National Geographic Recognition
•National Geographic featured Fort Wayne's Famous Coney Island as the country's longest running hot dog stand in a story published July 2.
•Co owner Jimmy Todoran said he first thought the publication's email was a scam before a reporter spent three days photographing and reporting on the restaurant.
•Todoran said the recognition honors the immigrant legacy behind the business and reflects Fort Wayne's ongoing revitalization.

Arrest Made After Barricade Ends At Southwest Home
•Police responded to a home in the 2100 block of Riedmiller Avenue just before 5 p.m. Friday during an active investigation.
•Officers arrested a person after they barricaded themselves inside the home while police were serving an arrest warrant.
•The person exited the home peacefully and was taken into custody.

One Dead And Eight Injured In Southeast Fort Wayne Shooting
•Police responded to a shooting in the 2200 block of Oliver Street at 3:26 a.m. Sunday and found multiple victims.
•One woman died at the scene and four men and four women were hospitalized with non life threatening injuries.
•Fort Wayne Police homicide detectives, the Crime Scene Unit, and the Air Support Unit are investigating the shooting.

•Police responded around 3 a.m. Sunday after reports of a disturbance involving an armed person at the Shell gas station at Broadway and Taylor Street.
•Two victims arrived at a local hospital, where one man later died and the other was treated for non life threatening injuries.
•Fort Wayne Police homicide detectives, the Crime Scene Unit, and the drone unit are investigating the shooting.

Dog And Cat Die In Northeast Fort Wayne House Fire
•A bystander reported smoke coming from the roof of a home in the 4000 block of Springwood Drive around 1:45 p.m. Sunday.
•Firefighters found a kitchen fire and discovered a dog and a cat that had died from smoke inhalation and extreme heat.
•Crews brought the fire under control within 15 minutes and the cause remains under investigation.

• The new federal investment accounts became available July 4, with more than 6 million accounts already opened and 1.4 million eligible newborns set to receive a one time $1,000 federal contribution.
• Eligible children under 18 can have one account that invests in low cost U.S. stock index funds, with contributions allowed from families, employers, governments and qualified nonprofits under certain limits.
• Withdrawals generally begin at age 18, with tax rules varying based on who made the contributions and how the money is used.
