📰News

🍔 Savvy Sliders and Fat Boy’s Pizza will co-open their first Fort Wayne locations this fall at 7777 Coldwater Road, the former BurgerFi site. Renovations are underway, including a new drive-thru window. Savvy Sliders offers premium sliders, custard shakes, and chicken fingers, while Fat Boy’s Pizza is known for its giant 30-inch pizzas and oversized slices. Franchisee Michael Catelogna says the co-branded spot will offer a bold and unique dining experience. A Grand Opening celebration is planned. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚧 A section of the Maumee Pathway trail between Coliseum Boulevard and Maplecrest Road is closed starting Tuesday and will remain closed through August 31. The closure is due to culvert repairs by City Utilities as part of a flood protection project. The trail will be unavailable during construction. Read more from WANE 15 here.

✈️ Allegiant announced it will begin non-stop flights from Fort Wayne International Airport to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport starting November 20. One-way fares will start as low as $59. The airline already offers flights from Fort Wayne to several other destinations including Phoenix, Orlando, Tampa, and Las Vegas. 🔥 The Fort Wayne fire union has filed a complaint accusing Fire Chief Eric Lahey of breaching a mediation confidentiality agreement. The complaint follows Lahey’s published op-ed outlining the city’s position on ongoing contract negotiations. The union says this violates trust and threatens progress in mediation. The city responded that the article did not breach confidentiality and reaffirmed its commitment to continued mediation. The union says it may walk away if rules aren’t followed, but that remains a last resort. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🏭 The Harvester Homecoming Museum project may be delayed up to five years due to changes in Indiana tax law. Originally planned for New Haven, the museum is now set to be part of phase II of the Fields of Grace complex. Senate Bill 1, which lowered property taxes and city revenues, prompted a reevaluation of funding. Discussions between Harvester Homecoming and the City of New Haven continue, with alternative locations also being considered. The free Harvester Homecoming Festival is still set for Friday and Saturday at 2950 Meyer Road. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🏡 St. Joseph Missions Women’s Shelter is expanding support for graduates transitioning to independent living with the addition of new shared housing. The initiative aims to offer safe, affordable housing and needed resources. A housewarming event will be held July 31 from 5–8 p.m. at 6027 Becker Dr., with tours, refreshments, and donation opportunities. The shelter is also seeking furniture and sponsor support. Read more from WANE 15 here.

Indiana Michigan Power is encouraging energy conservation during high heat through its Power Rewards programs. Customers can earn credits by joining Smart Thermostat, iControl, or Home AC options. These help reduce strain on the power grid during “Peak Energy Events.” I&M suggests using less electricity from 3–6 p.m., avoiding ovens, delaying chores, and adjusting A/C settings. For more information on Power Rewards, click here. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚗 The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who died in Saturday’s crash on Butler Road as 33-year-old Jared Scott Huth of Fort Wayne. His car struck a tree and caught fire. Emergency crews pulled him from the vehicle, but he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries and burns, and it was ruled accidental. 🌊 A 45-year-old man, Aaron Graves, died Monday after drowning in a northeast Fort Wayne pond, according to the Indiana DNR.
