🚧 Starting Monday, the eastbound turn lane at East State Boulevard and Lahmeyer Road near Black Hawk Christian Schools is closed. This closure is part of ongoing construction to install a 12-inch water main. Lahmeyer Road and the East State lane closure will stay in place through late August. The existing detour between East State and Trier Road remains, with Maplecrest Road as the main alternate route. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🦽 The City of Fort Wayne is making the College Street and West Washington Blvd intersection more accessible by installing a ramp to replace crosswalk steps. The project is part of the city's ADA Transition Plan and aims to help people with disabilities navigate the area. Sidewalk panels will be removed, slopes added, and traffic signals modernized. The construction is expected to last about a month once it begins, though no start date has been announced. Some traffic slowdowns are expected during the work. Read more from WFFT here.
🥕 HEAL Markets are popping up across Fort Wayne through the end of August, offering affordable produce while accepting SNAP, WIC, senior vouchers, and VeggieRX. Shoppers can even double purchases with Hoosier WORKS cards. The markets also connect communities to health resources and local farms. Sites include Parkview Greenhouse (Thursdays), Johnnie Mae Farms (Mondays), and Southside Farmers Market (Saturdays). Funded by Parkview and the Saint Joe Community Health Foundation, the program helps combat food deserts and support local growers. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🎶 Sweetwater is offering free instrument fitting sessions starting next month to help musicians of all ages gear up for the school year. The sessions are open to anyone interested in trying out a new instrument. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🔫 Indiana State Police are investigating after a Marion officer fired his gun during a shooting incident Sunday morning. Around 10 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire from a white SUV near 4th and Western streets. Near 1st and D Streets, an officer saw a passenger in the SUV shoot at a pedestrian believed to be the same target as the earlier call. The officer returned fire, but the suspect fled. No injuries were reported, though several homes were hit by bullets. ISP's investigation is ongoing. Read more from WANE 15 here.
