📰News

🛍️ The Lighthouse thrift store opened early at Glenbrook Mall, next to Macy’s, ahead of its July 31 grand opening. The boutique-style shop features higher-end donated items and mall-brand clothes at reduced prices. It won't accept donations onsite. Proceeds support The Lighthouse’s recovery program for 28 men battling addiction. Hours are 10 AM–8 PM, closed Sundays. The ribbon cutting is still set for July 31 at 11:30 AM with tours, specials, and refreshments. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🦆 The 37th annual Weigand Construction Duck Race takes place this Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM at Promenade Park, supporting the Iris Family Support Center. The event features food trucks, games, music, and family activities, with the duck race starting at noon. First prize is $5,000, with additional cash and raffle prizes like sports tickets and gift baskets. Duck tickets are available at local businesses and online through the Iris Family Support Center. 🏀 After a July 5 shooting that killed a 16-year-old and injured three teens, Fort Wayne non-profits like Boys & Girls Clubs, City Life, Youth For Christ, and Fort Wayne United are offering weekend basketball, e-gaming, and other programs to keep teens safe. Funding cuts have limited activities, partly due to concerns about DEI, but the groups are continuing. Fort Wayne United, paused since 2024, is working to become a self-sustaining nonprofit. Volunteers and donations are welcome. Read more from WANE 15 here.

📺 PBS Fort Wayne has named Edward R. Leon as its new president and CEO following the retirement of Bruce Haines after 17 years. Leon brings 25+ years of experience, including leadership roles at Free Speech TV and Arkansas PBS. He’s known for work in educational broadcasting, digital growth, and award-winning content. His appointment comes as public media faces federal funding challenges. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🚔 The Allen County Coroner has identified the man shot and killed by Fort Wayne police Monday as 51-year-old Christopher James Stutler. Police say Stutler allegedly pointed a gun at officers on West State Boulevard, prompting them to open fire. He was taken to a hospital but died from multiple gunshot wounds, which were ruled a homicide a standard classification in police shootings. The case remains under investigation by FWPD, the Prosecutor’s Office, and Indiana State Police. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🕊️ The Allen County Coroner has identified the victim of Saturday’s northeast Fort Wayne shooting as 16-year-old Kardenai Anthony Hollis. He was found around 3 a.m. on River Run Trail with gunshot wounds and later died at the hospital. His death was ruled a homicide. No suspects have been named, and police are asking anyone with information to contact FWPD or Crime Stoppers. A reward of up to $5,000 is available. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🛜 An 83-year-old man in northeast Allen County has been without internet and landline service since July 7, leaving him without access to emergency help. Frontier, the only provider in the area, has sent daily texts saying they’re still working on it but no fix yet. His niece, Amanda Klingenberger, says cell service isn’t an option and attempts to teach him have failed. She’s contacted Frontier, the FCC, state officials, and Allen County, but so far, no resolution. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🏗️ Northwest Allen County Schools is moving ahead with plans for two major construction projects: a new Career Technical Education and Alternative Education Center west of Carroll High School and a new Transportation Facility off Hathaway Road. Despite some traffic concerns from residents, the board voted to proceed. The projects rely on passing an Operations Referendum in November. A new website and Referendum Calculator are available to help residents understand the potential impact. Read more from WANE 15 here.
