📰News

🚦 Starting Tuesday, July 15, traffic on the Bluffton Road Bridge over the St. Marys River will be restricted to one lane as Phase Two of the bridge reconstruction project begins. Only one direction of travel will be allowed at a time, and signal lights will have longer red lights to manage traffic. The new pattern is expected to last through October. Drivers should expect delays and consider alternate routes. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🛠️ INDOT has started bridge repairs on US 27 near I-469 in Allen County, beginning Monday, July 14. Crews will work on the bridge joints between E Ferguson Road and Thompson Road, just south of Fort Wayne. The project is expected to last about two weeks, weather permitting. Drivers are advised to slow down and use caution in the construction zone. Read more from WANE 15 here.

💧 Fort Wayne’s “Moving Forward with a Purpose” plan proposes water rate increases to fund improvements to water, sewer, and stormwater systems in more than 200 neighborhoods. The five-year plan could raise monthly bills by about $12 for average households by 2029. A public meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 15 at 6 p.m. in the Omni Room at Citizens Square. Residents can learn more about replacing aging pipes and preventing flooding. Projects will be funded through utility rates, not taxes. Read more from WANE 15 here.

✈️ The 122nd Fighter Wing honored 19-year-old airman Sam Peterson during the final day of the Fort Wayne Air Show on Sunday, July 14. Peterson, who passed away in a tragic accident on July 4, was remembered by family, friends, and military colleagues. The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds dedicated their flight to Sam, with Thunderbird number four flying in his honor. His family, touched by the overwhelming community support, plans to use donated funds now near $19,000 for a scholarship named “Serve And Motivate,” inspired by Sam’s motivational whiteboard at Ball State University. 💚 Parkview Hospice is looking for volunteers to support patients and families. Volunteers may visit patients in homes or care facilities, offering comfort through conversation, emotional support, or light tasks like housework or yard care. Some may help record life stories, provide music, or assist those nearing end of life as Vigil Volunteers. Orientation, background check, and health requirements are needed. Must be 18 or older. Learn how to get involved here.

🚨 Fort Wayne police are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday night, July 13, on Huestis Avenue, just south of downtown. The shooting was reported at 10:28 p.m., and one person was taken to the hospital. Authorities have not released details on the person’s condition or the circumstances surrounding the incident. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🔒 Fort Wayne police have arrested 39-year-old Jamarcus Williams for his involvement in a Saturday morning shooting near Weisser Park Avenue. The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on July 12, where a man was found with gunshot wounds and taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition. Williams turned himself in to the Allen County Jail on Monday afternoon, just hours after police issued a call for public help in locating him. Read more from WANE 15 here.
