🎭 TekVenture Makerspace is hosting “Playing With Plays,” a free theatre workshop held every Saturday in January from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at its Wayne Trace location, inviting participants of all ages and abilities to perform scenes from more than 40 scripts while also learning basic woodworking and sewing skills. 💊 The City of Fort Wayne has opened a second round of applications for its Opioid Settlement Fund, which provides money from a federal settlement with prescription opioid manufacturers to organizations working to address addiction. Redemption House Ministry, a previous recipient, used the funds to support daily operations and help women recovering from addiction after incarceration. The application window opened Friday, and organizations are encouraged to apply to make a local impact. Read more from WPTA 21 here.
🚗 The Indiana BMV has released five new Special Group Recognition license plate designs for 2026. The plates support colleges, universities, and organizations, with fees going directly to each group. This year’s designs include Purdue University Fort Wayne, Purdue University Northwest, Indiana State Teachers Association Foundation, Indiana Fever Fund of the Pacers Foundation, and Pollinator Partnership. 🏀The Harlem Globetrotters performed at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum as part of their 100th-season "100 Year Tour." The event featured a game against the Washington Generals, showcasing signature tricks, dunks, and a special celebration of the team's centennial anniversary. Fans participated in meet-and-greets, joined pre-game warmups, and purchased exclusive 100-year tour-themed merchandise. 🐍Science Central is preparing for its Spring Break STEM Camp, featuring Hypathia the ball python as part of its zoology curriculum. The camp, designed for children ages 5 to 11, offers hands-on learning in subjects including LEGO robots, geology, astronomy, and forensics. The program is scheduled to run from Monday, March 31, to Friday, April 14, with daily sessions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🔥 A residential fire broke out in the 3600 block of Saint Joe Center Road just after 9 p.m. on Friday, January 2. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames extending from the first-floor windows and were able to bring the blaze under control within 20 minutes. The homeowner was asleep when the fire started but was awakened by the flames and successfully escaped the building. He was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, and no other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the Fort Wayne Fire Department. 🏛️ Allen County lawmakers are inviting students aged 13 to 18 to participate in the Indiana House Page Program for the 2026 legislative session. The program allows students to spend a day at the Statehouse in Indianapolis, where they can tour the building, witness the legislative process firsthand, and meet their state representatives. Under Indiana law, participating students receive a one-day excused absence from school. Sessions are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays starting in January, with group opportunities available on Wednesdays. Read more from WFFT here.
🚨 A two-car crash occurred Saturday morning around 10:30 a.m. on US 27 near Flatrock Road, close to Nine-Mile Restaurant in Allen County. One car rear-ended another, causing the second vehicle to overturn. The passenger of the flipped car was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Speed and distracted driving are believed to be factors. The right northbound lane remains closed, while the left lane is open. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🏒 The Fort Wayne Komets lost 2-1 in overtime Saturday to the Kansas City Mavericks after Marcus Crawford scored with 2.3 seconds left. Fort Wayne had taken an early lead on Jalen Smereck’s goal, but Jackson Jutting tied it a minute later. The Komets had five power-play opportunities but went 0-for-5, including a 4-on-3 in overtime. Nathaniel Day made 21 saves; Logan Terness stopped 27. Fort Wayne is now on a five-game losing streak and trails first-place Toledo in the ECHL Central Division.
