Director Rick Schuiteman reflects on the zoo’s 60th birthday, Glo Wild lantern displays, Coastal Cove’s opening, new animal arrivals, Wild Lights, and the 100th Wild on WANE story, plus upcoming closures and reopening dates.

🐝‘Protect Pollinators’ license plate coming in 2026
Hoosiers united to bring a new specialty license plate to Indiana BMVs in 2026 supporting pollinator conservation. Auburn native Lisa Conrad led the five-year effort, securing approval after collecting more than double the required signatures. Each plate funds conservation, native gardens, and education statewide.

🚓 ISP: I-69 pursuit in Steuben County leads to arrest
Indiana State Police arrested a Fort Wayne man after a high-speed pursuit on I-69 in Steuben County. The chase ended when the vehicle became stuck in a creek after exiting the interstate. Authorities recovered a handgun, and the driver faces felony and misdemeanor charges.

Fort Wayne Komets fans celebrated keeping their New Year’s Eve tradition alive after an ECHL labor agreement allowed the game to proceed. The sold-out matchup drew 10,006 fans despite recent postponed games. Bloomington defeated Fort Wayne 4–3.
