🎰 House Bill 1038, introduced by Rep. Craig Snow, proposes a casino in Allen County through a bidding process instead of relocating Rising Star Casino. The bill requires local legislative support and directs the Indiana Gaming Commission to evaluate proposals on economic benefits, tax revenue, job creation, investment plans, financial stability, community involvement, and other factors. The winning applicant would pay at least $50 million to the state. Read more from WANE 15 here.
💰 A Hoosier Lottery CA$H 5 ticket purchased at the Kroger on Chesnut Plaza Drive in west Fort Wayne matched all five numbers for Monday’s drawing, winning $125,000. The winning numbers were 6-9-21-30-41. The winner is advised to secure the ticket, consider consulting a financial advisor, and contact Hoosier Lottery for claim instructions. 🚁 Lutheran Air has reached a major milestone with 15,000 safe air flights across Northern Indiana. The program, which began in May 2004, operates three airbases in Portland, Knox, and Wabash. Nurses aboard Lutheran Air can perform life-saving procedures, including blood transfusions, and are now working on implementing in-flight ultrasounds. The program has grown from one airframe to three and continues to innovate while providing critical emergency care. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🏫 Fort Wayne Community Schools explained how they decide on delays or cancellations. The transportation team monitors road conditions from 4 a.m. and makes recommendations by 5 a.m. Parents can keep children home if they feel travel is unsafe, and absences will be excused. 🗑 Snowy and icy streets are making it difficult for GFL trucks to pick up trash and recycling in Fort Wayne. Residents are asked to move cars off streets, clear snow around bins, and ensure bulk items are accessible. 🔥 Firefighters responded Monday night to a blaze in the 4200 block of Bluffton Road in Waynedale that began in a car and spread to a garage and storage units. The fire was contained in about 40 minutes, no injuries were reported, and the road was temporarily blocked between Engle Road and Bluffton Road. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🩸 Employees at Piere’s Entertainment Center say Friday’s deadly stabbing, which killed 28-year-old Jermichael James and injured another man, was an isolated incident despite extensive security measures. Nearly 20 security personnel, including two FWPD officers, were on duty, but the suspect entered through a side door. Workers described the aftermath as “gruesome” and praised staff efforts to save James’s life. Police are still searching for the suspect. Read more from WANE 15 here.
