🎅 “Santa Saturdays” are back at the Botanical Conservatory this weekend, now set inside the newly opened Fern’s Fairylight Express exhibit. Families can take photos with Santa from 12–4 p.m. on the first three Saturdays of December, and the experience is included with regular admission. Visitors can also explore the magical new exhibit, inspired by an original story created with local author and illustrator Talitha Shipman. Read more from 21Alive here.
🚒The Fort Wayne Fire Department has officially launched its 98th and 99th recruit classes, the first time two classes have trained together. More than 40 recruits are entering the academy, and if all graduate, the department will surpass 370 firefighters, the highest staffing level in FWFD history. Mayor Sharon Tucker says the added personnel will help reduce firefighter stress and cut down on overtime. The combined academy includes both new recruits and those already certified as EMTs. ⚠️The Allen County Coroner identified the man killed at Piere’s Entertainment Center as 28-year-old Jermichael Lamarkeyes James from Fort Wayne. His death was ruled a homicide due to stab and incised wounds to the torso. Another man was hospitalized with minor injuries. ⚠️The Allen County Coroner’s Office confirmed that 28-year-old Jermichael Lamarkeyes James from Fort Wayne died from stab and incised wounds to the torso at Pierre’s Entertainment Center. His death has been ruled a homicide, marking the 33rd homicide in Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2025. Police and county officials continue to investigate. Read more from WFFT here.
🔫 A man was hospitalized after a shooting Sunday afternoon at the Travelers Inn on E. Washington Blvd. in east Fort Wayne. Police found the victim in the hotel lobby with gunshot wounds; his injuries were deemed non-life-threatening. Detectives are reviewing footage, gathering evidence, and interviewing witnesses. FWPD says there is no known threat to the public. Anyone with information is urged to contact police or submit a tip through Crime Stoppers or the P3 Tips app. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🚓Indiana State Police Fort Wayne post shared Thanksgiving week patrol results. On November 24, troopers issued 40 tickets, 37 warnings, made one arrest on an outstanding warrant, and investigated one crash. From November 26–28, they wrote 32 tickets, 133 warnings, made 12 drug-related arrests, one habitual traffic violator arrest, one OWI arrest, and one arrest on an outstanding warrant. During the winter storm over the weekend, troopers responded to 28 crashes, 23 slide-offs, and 17 stranded or abandoned vehicles. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🏛Indiana Republican Party Chair and Fort Wayne City Clerk Lana Keesling revealed she was swatted at her home last week, becoming the latest political figure in Indiana threatened amid Congressional redistricting efforts. Keesling faced two swatting attempts last Wednesday. She thanked local and federal law enforcement for ensuring her family’s safety. Ungar had recently returned from a loan to Greensboro and went 2-0 in two games with Fort Wayne, allowing three goals on 54 shots.
