📰News

Fort Wayne Gas Prices Drop Below $3 as year-end holiday travel surges, with the local average for regular gasoline reaching $2.841 per gallon. While prices increased from last week, they remain significantly lower than the $3.186 average seen one year ago. National trends suggest prices could continue to decline toward Christmas Day due to strong supplies and lower crude oil costs. Read more from WFFT here.

🩸Red Cross Seeks Drivers To Deliver Blood to hospitals in the Greater Fort Wayne area and Northwest Ohio. Volunteers are needed for two to four shifts per month, typically lasting four hours, to provide a vital link between donors and patients. Requirements include a valid driver's license, three years of driving experience, and the ability to lift up to 45 pounds. Read more from LimaOhio here.

🎄Christmas Added To Parkview Field Holiday Lights Schedule after officials responded to numerous community requests to open the downtown attraction on December 25th. The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Christmas Day, offering all standard activities including train rides, holiday crafts, and food. Tickets are available for $12 as the display continues daily through January 3rd. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🏠Firefighters Battle Blaze In Empty Bloomingdale House on Fort Wayne's northeast side after responding to reports of smoke Sunday night. Crews arrived at the two-story residence on Florence Avenue at 8:27 p.m. and brought the fire, located in an upstairs bedroom, under control by 8:55 p.m. The building was confirmed vacant with no injuries reported, though the home sustained moderate fire, water, and smoke damage. Read more from WFFT here.

⚠️FWPD Seeks Clues In Deadly Intersection Shooting after a man was found shot to death inside a car early Sunday morning. Officers responded to the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and West Paulding Road at approximately 4:33 a.m., where medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Detectives are currently searching for witnesses and surveillance video, as no suspects have been identified and the motive remains unknown. Read more from WFFT here.

🔪Police Investigate Stabbing On Archer Avenue following a report in the late afternoon this past Sunday. Officers found a man with serious cuts to his face and neck, and he was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. While no suspects have been named, police stated there is no ongoing threat to the public and are currently seeking witnesses to the incident. Read more from WFFT here.

🔥Crews Battle Near North Side House Fire on the 600 block of Florence Avenue after responding to the scene around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday. Firefighters brought the blaze under control in less than 30 minutes, using chainsaws to cut through the roof to reach visible flames. No one was home at the time of the incident, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🌿Marijuana Laws And Potential Federal Rescheduling highlights the contrast between Indiana's strict prohibition and the legal markets in Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois. While a recent executive order directs the rescheduling of marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III, the move does not legalize the substance nationwide. Indiana residents continue to face criminal risks when transporting products across state lines, as local and state police maintain strict enforcement regardless of neighboring laws. Read more from WFFT here.

🏛️ Indiana House Democratic Leader Phil GiaQuinta of Fort Wayne criticized The Washington Post’s decision to name Indiana its first-ever “State of the Year,” saying the editorial overlooked negative impacts of recent Statehouse policies. While he agreed that bipartisan resistance to mid-decade congressional redistricting deserved praise, GiaQuinta argued that property tax cuts, budget reductions, education funding changes, and cuts to child care vouchers are harming families, schools, and local communities. He said some projects are already being delayed, child care providers are closing, and public schools are not seeing the same funding boosts as private-school voucher programs. 🏒 ECHL players have voted to authorize a strike, putting the Fort Wayne Komets’ Dec. 26 home game against the Indy Fuel at risk if negotiations stall. The Professional Hockey Players’ Association says the vote gives its bargaining committee leverage to pursue a new contract after the previous agreement expired June 30, with player pay and working conditions among key issues. The league has warned a work stoppage could begin as early as Dec. 26, though a strike is not guaranteed and talks are ongoing. The Komets are currently scheduled to host “FOX 55 Night at the Rink” with puck drop set for 7:35 p.m. at the Coliseum. Read more from WFFT here.
