Plane crash in Lake Wawasee
A single-engine plane crashed and flipped in Lake Wawasee, Indiana, on August 3rd. Witness Fort Wayne resident David Slyby recorded the incident, where the pilot managed to escape before the plane capsized. Slyby and his family assisted the pilot until authorities arrived. The plane was later extracted by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.
Babies”R”Us returns in at Fort Wayne Kohl’s
Babies”R”Us is returning to Fort Wayne with a new experience inside Kohl’s on East Coliseum Boulevard. Opening this month, the dedicated space will offer baby gear, furniture, and more. Products will also be available online and for baby registries, with Kohl’s Cash accepted.
Free Christian healthcare expanding to Fort Wayne
Christian Community Healthcare (CCHC) provides free healthcare to all, and it’s expanding beyond Grabill. Thanks to a partnership with Headwaters Church, CCHC will open a Fort Wayne location offering primary, urgent, and new dental care services by next summer. Fort Wayne gains partner to try and bring passenger rail to town
Fort Wayne is partnering with HNTB Corporation to advance the Midwest Connect Passenger Rail Project, aiming to connect Pittsburgh and Chicago through Fort Wayne and Columbus. The city received a $500,000 federal grant to initiate planning. Mayor Sharon Tucker highlights the project's potential to restore passenger rail services, boosting regional connectivity. The effort includes multiple stages, heavily funded by the federal government, and promises significant long-term benefits for Fort Wayne and other cities along the proposed route. Read more here.
Allen County Sheriff’s Department warns residents of officer impersonation scams
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department warns residents of an increase in scams using officers' names to solicit money. Victims have lost up to $15,000. The department clarifies they will never ask for payment over the phone or in unconventional ways. If suspicious, call the Civil Division or Non-Emergency Line.
Police find semi involved in fatal hit-and-run
Authorities have located the semitrailer involved in last Thursday’s fatal hit-and-run on Interstate 69. The crash killed a semi driver near Union Chapel Road. The Allen County Sheriff’s Department credited public tips for finding the vehicle, though details about the suspect driver remain undisclosed as the investigation continues.
Coroner identifies ANOTHER pedestrian hit by semi, killed on I-69 South
I-69 South reopened at the 310-mile marker after a pedestrian, Robert Collins, 68, was hit and killed by a semi early Wednesday in a separate incident from the hit-and-run. Collins, wearing dark clothing, was crossing the highway. Police ruled his death an accident and noted that neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash.
Recreational cannabis sales coming to Ohio Tuesday
Theory Wellness in Sherwood, Ohio, will begin selling recreational marijuana on Tuesday, becoming one of the first in the state to do so. CEO Brandon Pollock confirmed the approval, allowing anyone 21 and over to purchase cannabis. Despite a 10% excise tax, excitement is high for this new, convenient option.

The TinCaps are in one of their toughest stretches of the season, with only 3 wins in their last 14 games. Every game is an opportunity for a comeback, and the team remains focused on getting back on track.

Dwenger grad Hudson named preseason All-Big Ten
Purdue junior Eva Hudson, a Bishop Dwenger graduate, has been named to the preseason All-Big Ten volleyball team after leading the conference in kills last season. With 1,075 career kills in just two seasons, she’s the fastest Boilermaker to reach this milestone. Purdue is projected to finish 4th in the Big Ten.
