✝️ A gunman armed with multiple weapons opened fire during Mass at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis on Wednesday, killing two children, ages 8 and 10. Fourteen other children and three elderly parishioners were wounded but are expected to survive. The shooter, 23-year-old Robin Westman, died by suicide. On Thursday, Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades of the Fort Wayne-South Bend Diocese released a statement mourning the victims, offering prayers for the families, and urging continued action against gun violence and its root causes. 🚧 Fort Wayne City Utilities has postponed lane closures on Coldwater Road between Tillwater Lane and Wallen Hills Drive. Originally set for Thursday, the restrictions will now begin Tuesday, September 2 at 8 a.m. and last into the late afternoon. The work is tied to repairing road damage from a water main break. 🐱 Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control is warning cat owners about feline panleukopenia, also known as feline distemper, a highly contagious and potentially deadly virus. The disease attacks rapidly growing cells and weakens the immune system, but vaccines can prevent it. FWACC is partnering with Humane Fort Wayne to offer low-cost vaccinations on a walk-in basis at 1333 Maycrest Drive. Humane Fort Wayne does not provide treatment for sick or injured pets but can help owners keep their cats protected. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🏛️ Mayor Sharon Tucker announced the creation of the SB1 Fiscal Task Force to help keep the city’s finances strong following the passage of Senate Bill 1. The law, which took effect in July, provides property tax relief for homeowners and businesses but could affect city revenue. The task force, led by City Controller Pat Roller and made up of local leaders, will review the legislation’s impact, guide budget decisions, and coordinate with taxing units. The group’s first meeting is set for September 2. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🌱 Google is requesting a permit to fill nearly 2.5 acres of protected wetlands for Phase 2 of its $2 billion East Allen County data center project. The plan would impact 1.65 acres of unforested Class 2 wetlands and 0.79 acres of forested Class 2 wetlands to add five more buildings and infrastructure. To offset this, Hatchworks LLC, on behalf of Google, plans to purchase mitigation credits from wetland banks. The public comment period runs through September 11, with options to request a hearing or send feedback to IDEM. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🏐 The first-ever outdoor volleyball game in Indiana was played Wednesday night as Carroll hosted Homestead on their football field. Carroll’s athletic department estimated over 4,500 fans in attendance. Players described the energy as unforgettable, with Carroll winning in straight sets against their rival. Both teams left with memories of a historic night for the sport. Read more from WANE 15 here.
👮 Detective Sergeant Christopher Felton of the Fort Wayne Police Department balances work in the gang and violent crime unit with a PhD in criminal justice and teaching at Trine and Indiana Tech. His research focuses on procedural justice, building trust by treating people with dignity, giving them a voice, being neutral, and showing trustworthy motives. Felton’s dissertation included interviews with 12 patrol officers trained in these methods, revealing that respectful treatment and clear communication can ease tensions, improve cooperation, and reshape community perceptions of police. He hopes this approach, combined with training and community dialogue, will make policing more effective and trusted. Read more from WANE 15 here.
How 433 Investors Unlocked 400X Return Potential
Institutional investors back startups to unlock outsized returns. Regular investors have to wait. But not anymore. Thanks to regulatory updates, some companies are doing things differently.
Take Revolut. In 2016, 433 regular people invested an average of $2,730. Today? They got a 400X buyout offer from the company, as Revolut’s valuation increased 89,900% in the same timeframe.
Founded by a former Zillow exec, Pacaso’s co-ownership tech reshapes the $1.3T vacation home market. They’ve earned $110M+ in gross profit to date, including 41% YoY growth in 2024 alone. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.
The same institutional investors behind Uber, Venmo, and eBay backed Pacaso. And you can join them. But not for long. Pacaso’s investment opportunity ends September 18.
Paid advertisement for Pacaso’s Regulation A offering. Read the offering circular at invest.pacaso.com. Reserving a ticker symbol is not a guarantee that the company will go public. Listing on the NASDAQ is subject to approvals.
