📰News
🏢 Tippmann Group announced plans Wednesday to build a 47,000-square-foot corporate headquarters on 47 acres at Wallen and Clinton on Fort Wayne’s north side. The new office will house Tippmann Construction, Interstate Warehousing, and Tippmann Properties, which have all grown significantly in recent years. The city’s Community Development Division will reimburse public infrastructure improvements, including road work on Clinton Street, using tax increment financing from the North Clinton Economic Development Area to support the project and future development. 🍹 Fort Wayne City Council voted 6-1 Tuesday night to expand the city’s Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA), connecting the downtown and Electric Works areas into one larger district. The new DORA will allow people to carry drinks from Electric Works to The Landing, Promenade Park, and beyond, adding several blocks and encompassing the existing area. Local spots like Penny Drip, Club Soda, Henry’s, Brass Rail, The Fairfield, and Rudy’s are already preparing to participate once state approval is finalized. City leaders said the expansion supports business growth and economic development while encouraging responsible use. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🎨 Three Rivers Painting Co., a locally owned business, launched its “Paint it Forward” initiative on Tuesday to give back to the community by providing free exterior painting and landscaping services for homeowners in underserved neighborhoods. The program began with Elevate City Church in east central Fort Wayne, where owner Andrew Bachman, who attends the church, led the first project. The church has also joined the initiative, aiming to expand community service efforts. Nominations for future recipients can be submitted on the company’s website, with one chosen each quarter. 🏫 The Southwest Allen County Schools board unanimously approved moving forward with the purchase of 57 acres of land at 314 North Noyer Road for an estimated $2.3 million. The district said the acquisition is a forward-looking investment to address long-term enrollment and programming needs, ensuring space for future growth. No specific building projects are planned at this stage; the resolution positions the district to be prepared if additional facilities are needed in the future. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🐆 The Fort Wayne Zoo introduced a male clouded leopard cub born June 22 to parents Raury and Sanji, their second successful birth. He’s being hand-raised by staff to ensure survival and is bottle-fed while learning to climb and play. His genetics are considered valuable for conservation, though his name hasn’t been announced yet. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🚦 A crash around 10:50 a.m. Wednesday blocked all four directions at Illinois and Hillegas roads, backing up traffic for southbound drivers on Hillegas. By 11:20 a.m., traffic had resumed with only one lane closed as police remained on the scene. Read more from WANE 15 here.
🚒 The driver of a work truck pulled a woman from her burning SUV after a head-on crash early Wednesday near Flaugh and California in northwest Allen County, according to the sheriff’s department. Deputies said the SUV was heading south when it passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone and struck the northbound truck. Both vehicles caught fire, and the truck driver rescued the woman, who was hospitalized in life-threatening condition; he was also injured. The intersection was closed while crews cleared the scene.
