🎓 Purdue University Fort Wayne is waiving its $30 undergraduate application fee and $50 enrollment deposit for new freshmen and transfer students now through August 18 at 11:59 p.m. To take advantage, applicants should visit pfw.edu/apply and enter the code ApplyPFW when prompted. Students with a 2.5 GPA or higher will also automatically be considered for merit-based scholarships ranging from $500 to $3,000 per year—no separate application needed. 📞 For more info: Visit pfw.edu/admissions or call 260-481-6812. 🌳 Packard Park on Fort Wayne’s south side officially reopened Thursday after a major $1.9 million redesign. The improvements include two new playgrounds, an event lawn, landscaping upgrades, and a perimeter walking path. The project, shaped by community input, preserved key features like the pavilion and futsal courts. City leaders and neighborhood representatives celebrated the transformation, calling it a symbol of community pride and collaboration. A public celebration is planned for October 4. 🎤 Mayor Sharon Tucker led a community discussion Wednesday at the Allen County Public Library to address youth violence in Fort Wayne. Joined by Police Chief Scott Caudill and community advocates, panelists spoke about curfews, community programs, and the need for cultural change. The city is exploring job opportunities for teens, funding partnerships with nonprofits, and following Indianapolis' curfew changes. Attendees included city residents, a few students, and leaders like the Fort Wayne UNITED director, who stressed better youth engagement. 📞 As youth gun violence rises in Fort Wayne, 911 dispatchers say they’re seeing the emotional impact firsthand. Chris Garrett, a second shift supervisor, shared that youth-involved shootings are among the toughest calls to handle. Recent incidents, including the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old, have prompted concern from city leaders and schools. Mayor Sharon Tucker hosted a public discussion Wednesday evening at the Allen County Public Library with Police Chief Scott Caudill and others. 🏘️ The third annual Inspire Neighborhoods Conference is coming up on September 12 at Electric Works in Fort Wayne. The event is open to anyone living or working in the city and offers sessions led by local and national leaders on how to strengthen neighborhoods. Attendees will learn about resources, funding, and strategies to build thriving communities. Last year’s event drew over 200 participants. 🚌 The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified 71-year-old David F. Hart as the man killed in a crash involving a Citilink bus on July 24. Hart had exited the bus and fell under the rear wheels as it began to pull away, according to Fort Wayne Police. He died from blunt force injuries, and the death has been ruled an accident. This marks the 27th traffic fatality in Allen County in 2025. The incident remains under investigation by multiple agencies. Read more from WANE 15 here.

🏀🏈Sports🏒

The San Diego Padres have traded top prospect Leodalis De Vries, who began the season with the TinCaps, to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for star closer Mason Miller. De Vries is ranked the No. 3 overall prospect in baseball and had a solid season with Fort Wayne, hitting eight home runs and stealing eight bases. Miller, one of the best closers in the league, has recorded 48 saves over the past two seasons and was an All-Star in 2024. Oakland also received three pitching prospects in the deal, which came just hours before the MLB trade deadline. Read more from WANE 15 here.
