⚡Department of Energy shouts out General Motors in Fort Wayne for Turning Waste Heat Into Power

The U.S. Department of Energy lauds General Motors for its exceptional decarbonization and energy efficiency. GM's Fort Wayne Assembly plant cut carbon emissions by 30% with a heat recovery system, earning the 2024 Better Project Award. As a Better Climate Challenge achiever, GM has halved its greenhouse gas emissions, setting a benchmark for others.

🔒ACLU says numbers not down enough in Allen County Jail

The Indiana ACLU reports that Allen County Jail still exceeds its capacity, despite efforts to reduce inmate numbers. Built for 741 inmates but capped at 586 due to regulations, the facility housed 697 on Friday. Construction of a new jail is delayed by funding challenges, with further updates expected in September. 🐕‍🦺Humane Fort Wayne Hosts Grand Opening Event

Humane Fort Wayne celebrated the grand opening of its new facility at 901 Leesburg Road. The animal move happens in phases, with adoptions at the Hanna Street location until August 25th. The new Leesburg Road site opens for adoptions on September 3rd. Stay updated at HumaneFW.org.

🏘️Housing Complex Starts Build at Purdue’s Fort Wayne Campus

Work has begun on a $100 million, 600-bed student housing complex at Purdue University Fort Wayne's North Campus. The four-story facility will feature modern amenities and sustainable elements, addressing the university's growing housing needs. Completion is expected by fall 2026 to support the expanding student population.

🥩Hideout 125 building new 7,700 square foot facility

Hideout 125 is moving to a new 7,700-square-foot location in Fort Wayne, enhancing its steak, seafood, and Prohibition-themed dining experience. Owner Sherman Bell credits his team and community support. With construction starting soon, the new facility is set to open in summer 2025.

🚫Lima Road Chipotle damaged, condemned

The Chipotle Mexican Grill at 6175 Lima Rd in Fort Wayne has been condemned due to unsafe conditions. A notice posted on August 8 prohibits entry without official permission. The doors are boarded up, with broken glass inside. Other Fort Wayne Chipotle locations remain open.

Carmel senior Alex Shackell, just 17, is making waves as the second Indiana high schooler to win Olympic medals. Returning from Paris 2024 with gold and silver medals, Shackell's journey from Olympic dreams at age 8 to standing on the podium has inspired many.
