🐕🦺Humane Fort Wayne moving into new facility
Humane Fort Wayne is celebrating their new facility at 901 Leesburg Road with open houses on August 17 and 18 from noon to 3 p.m. The upgraded space will feature more kennels and improved areas for animals and visitors. Join the guided tours, activities, and explore the outdoor trail as the shelter moves to its new home, ready to help even more pets find their forever homes.
🔒Big Lots is closing hundreds of stores nationwide.
Big Lots plans to close up to 315 stores nationwide amid financial struggles, an increase from the 150 originally announced. The retailer, reporting a 10% sales drop in Q1, aims to adjust loan terms. Store closures include locations in Illinois and Indiana, such as Fort Wayne, Elkhart, and North Indianapolis. Read more
⚡Power nearly completely restored after Friday morning crash
A vehicle crash into a utility pole early Friday caused thousands of I&M customers in northeast Fort Wayne to lose power. The outage, affecting areas near St. Joe, Stellhorn, and Hazelett Roads, lasted several hours. By noon, fewer than five customers remained without power. Southbound Maplecrest lanes were temporarily closed.
🚓FWPD begins internal investigation into viral traffic stop
A Fort Wayne police officer's account details the arrest of Tyjana Smith, 29, caught on camera and sparking public concern. Smith faces charges including resisting law enforcement and battery against a public safety official. Officer Mason Wills described the arrest following a high-speed chase, where Smith allegedly refused to cooperate. The FWPD has launched an internal investigation, temporarily reassigning involved officers, to assess the use of force and ensure protocol adherence. A video surfaced on Facebook showing the encounter.
👨👩👧👦Watch for buses as 25,000 kids start classes in Allen County
The school year kicks off Wednesday for around 25,000 students in Northwest, Southwest, and East Allen County Schools, with Fort Wayne Community Schools starting Thursday. As buses resume their routes, drivers must slow down for yellow lights and stop for red lights and extended stop arms. In April, Indiana reported over 1,500 stop-arm violations in just one day!
🛣️Main Street Closing For Road Work
Main Street will be closed between Ewing Street and Maiden Lane on August 15 and 16, and from August 19 – August 23, to remove concrete barricades and to complete restoration work in that area. Accoring to the city of Fort Wayne website.
👮Police release bodycam footage of Trump shooting in Pennsylvania
Body camera footage released shows the tense moments before Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to shoot former President Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally last month. The video captures police and Secret Service responding to the threat, with Crooks opening fire seconds later.

⚾Late game surge lifts Caps
Fort Wayne TinCaps rallied in the eighth and ninth innings to beat the South Bend Cubs 5-2, securing their third consecutive win. Eric Yost, making his TinCaps debut, pitched five strong innings with one earned run and four strikeouts. The teams meet again for game four of their series on Friday at 7:05 p.m in South Bend. The Caps are having a better 4 game stretch now at 3-4.
🏀Benedict takes over as coach of Carroll boys basketball program
Chris Benedict, a seasoned coach with 461 wins, has been named the new head coach at Carroll High School. Known for his previous roles at Columbia City, Bluffton, and Whitko, Benedict was introduced to the Carroll community at a recent meet & greet. He replaces Ryan Abbott, who left for a superintendent role.
